Whats your Workout

What do you Dads do to work out?

I am finding it hard to find time for any sort of workout on a regular basis. I wake up at 5am so I can get ready for work by 530. Then I get our daughter up, change her diaper, feed her so mommy can get ready for work. Im out the door at 6am for my hour commute to work. I work 10 hour days, then another hour commute back home. I usually pull up about 615ish or so. Then its bathe or whatever baby stuff that needs to be done. My wife an I somewhat split this but its mostly my wife dealing with the baby as I prep or grill dinner. Daughter gets to bed between 730 and 8 and were usually in bed right behind her as were not sure when/if she may wake up through out the night.

I am off Mon-Weds and stay home with our girl. I do manage to get on the elliptical for 20-30 minutes if she takes a good nap. Im just wondering if anyone has any good workout suggestions or programs they use for a 20-45 min a day quickie. Preferably something that doesn't involve a lot of equipment or any if possible. I have tried P90X and it was tough as they required chairs and weights and pull up bars.

Re: Whats your Workout

  • That's a rough schedule. I have a gym across the street from me at work so I get in 30 minutes a day during my lunch break.

Try pushups, burpies, squats, or anyother similar workout. Just do them whenever you feel like it when you're at home. You don't have to spend 30 minutes on them. Just get down and randomly do 20 pushups throughout the day. I don't do it as often as I should, but it's the only thing I can think of for you.

You didn't say anything about running, but when my son was a little over 1 I got a jogging stroller and he really liked it. That might be something to consider as well.

  • I HATE running...I get board, but I am going to get a new road bike with a tow along trailer for when she gets older. I enjoy riding. I feel like Im actually getting somewhere.
  • I highly recommend t25 - it's just 25 minutes and a great workout.  I was skeptical, as I usually need at least an hour for my workouts, but decided to give it a try when life as a mom with two boys was just not giving me the workout time I used to have.  The videos/workouts are short enough you can squeeze them in during naps or even before you go to bed (not my favorite, but sometimes it's all we have!).  Good luck!
  • I have a 3 month old and a 2 year old and also have a hectic life (who doesn't when they're a dad). I lie on the floor and do push ups holding my 2 year old and then do some push ups with him lying on my back. It's not cardio but every little helps. When I'm holding 3 months old, I hold him straight out and lift him over my head and carefully fly him around (he's at that stage that flying is fun).

I want to get a bike seat for my oldest so we can go out a couple of times a week during the summer.

    Good luck!
