Moms of boys

Is anyone else having trouble getting over the dirt factor? Taylor loves dirt and is the messiest eater, and it drives me nuts. Seeing dirt up his legs and him playing in mud is so hard for me. I had him in 5 outfits today between dirt and food and my DH told me I'm nuts. I try to just let it go, but it's been hard. I've felt myself relax a littl, but not sure how to just get over it!

Also - are your boys crazy men like mine? Lol he's a climber, he runs, he plays, he yells - so much different than some of the little girls I've seen!

Re: Moms of boys

  • DS runs, climbs, yells, and chases the dogs all day long! He's definitely a ball of energy.

DS likes to be clean though. If he gets food, dog hair, or poop (ew!) on his hands he immediately comes over to me to have them cleaned off. He hates having his face wiped though, lol.

  • @trombgirl‌ lucky you! Taylor once in a while will come to me with messy hands, but usually embraces it!

  • I've learned to embrace it. As a neat freak I thought I'd have a difficult time with it, but I truly enjoy watching him have so much fun. If we are home, I don't care if his clothes are dirty. I just change him before we go anywhere. He's a boy!!!

We too have started almost daily baths. When he was really little we only did them three times every week because of his dry skin. Now I'm scrubbing his nails and the bottoms of his feet every night! Love it!

  • Yeah, I think at this age girls ate just as bad. DD spent the majority of our time at the park yesterday digging up rocks and then sticking her hands in her mouth.

DD has a ton of hair too and that makes it worse... Last week she was smudging raspberries in her own hair while yelling HAT! HAT! Between the food, sunscreen, dirt, bubble soap, sidewalk chalk, etc., I have no idea how anyone is managing to not bathe daily at this point. :-)

  • DS likes to be clean and he likes things neat and organized. After meals I give him a rag to wipe down his spot at the table and he does such a good job that I don't have to re-wipe after he leaves (though I DO need to clean his seat and the floor where he throws and wipes all his rejected food, ugh!).

He does hate washing his face.

I don't think any of that has to do with being a male. I try to steer clear of gender stereotypes, especially at this age.

  • Definitely didn't mean to offend anyone with the "boys" comment - it's good to know I'm not the only one struggling with our little messy kiddos.

  • Yeah, the "boys" comments can get me a little flustered as a mom of a very active girl.

DD is all over everything. Climbing, playing, she changed outfits 5 times on Saturday too and I don't even change her if it's just a little food! We don't have much mud here and because of water parasites and because dengue is a problem we really do have to keep her away from standing water because of mosquitos. She loves turning the outside water spigots on though any chance she gets. Toddlers are messy beasts!

The only thing that worries me with my little boy and roughhousing is the idea that he might be called ADD or ADHD in school.  Yes, he has a short attention span; yes, he is a bit rough and tumble--but that is what being a child and being male often entails.  Boy-ness is so often considered bad these days, when it is just different.

  • I agree totally, by the end of the day Lil D is just down to a diaper and a smile. I just smile and cring when he gets really dirty, i know it will just wash off in the end.   When it is time to rock him to sleep, he always smells like my sweet boy.
