Sterilizer or Bottle Warmer?

FTM here...I bought the Tommee Tippee bottles and was curious if the sterilizer and bottle warmer is worth it. I will be going back to work after the 12 weeks so it would be used by my mother/mother in law...are they helpful to have or a waste of money?

I used Tommee Tippee with my son and I plan on using it for my daughter too. I have both the sterlizer and the warmer. I used both religiously however the only issue with the sterilizer is that it doesn't shut off on its own (unless they have changed it in the past 2 years). Not that plugging something in and unplugging it is a HUGE issue but I can't tell you how many times I forgot to unplug it LOL... I blamed mom-brain!

In my opinion, sterilizer...no. Just use a boiling pot of water before the first use. It's just something to take up counter space. But YES for the bottle warmer. We always gave DS a warm bottle.

Neither are necessities. Boil the bottles before first use and feed the baby room temp formula.

I used the bottle sterilizer that fit in the microwave and I loved it (I put my pump parts in it as well). I will use it for this munchkin as well. I used the bottle warmer a little bit at first but I mostly BF'd and ended up thawing out milk in a bowl of warm water. We actually used it more for jars of baby food. I only used it with DD and didn't bring it out with DS. We didn't have a dishwasher with DD but with DS I also put the bottles in the dishwasher if I had time to wait on a full load.

I'm a FTM also, but I will say the bottle warmer depends on if you are going to use formula or expressed breast milk. If you are using formula I would say no, you can give room temp or even cold (my friend found that cold formula reduced her daughter's reflux and she preferred it cold). If you are going to pump and feed breast milk, I would say yes and only because you don't want to use a microwave and running the hot water is annoying in my opinion. I have used the bottle warmer several times for friends and family when they visit (I have one already) and it is so fast and simple!

But again, if you are using formula it isn't necessary.

I never bothered with either with my first, won't bother now.

I'd rather wash and boil the feeding kit since I'm going to be BF/pumping and we just don't have the counter space for a steriliser.

The bottle warmer was an expense I couldn't justify with my first so never had one but it's easy enough to sit it in a bowl of warm water unless (like mine did) baby prefers a cold bottle. She was an odd duck but some of them do prefer it cold which makes warming it up in any way completely pointless.

For my first whoever was watching my DD used the bottle warmer. I always had breast milk. I had the sterilizer that goes in the microwave and loved it.

I used tommee tippee with DS and will with DD as well as long as she takes them. Big waste for both items to me personally, but opinions will differ.

I didn't bother with a bottle warmer as warm/hot water warms bottles just fine. I should mention DS was breastfed and both his daycare provider and hubs never found it necessary. Also I had a microwave sterilizer and ended up getting rid of it.

I used a bottle warmer all the time... And will with this one. We used the sterilizer in the beginning and then it sat in the closet.

I had a bottle warmer but never used it. DS got room temp bottles, which made feeding on the go easy. When I went back to work, DH would take milk out of fridge ahead of time or would microwave water to place bottle in.
I used my sterilizer a couple of times, but it really just took up space. I hand washed or used dishwasher top rack.

Never used a bottle warmer. Just got bottles to room temperature before feeding.

I have the Dr Brown's microwave sterilizer and only used it a handful of times. Nice to have but definitely not a necessity!

Never had either and never missed them

Boiled water for initial sterilization, then washed in the dishwasher.

Gave bottles cold, room temp, or warmed by hot tap water and never had any problems with any of it.

It's a little small to sterilize bottles, but great for pacis pumping parts etc... Medela (and I'm sure other brands) have a bag that you fill wth a little water and stick in microwave. Takes up minimal space and bags are reusable. But agree with most others... No and no.
