Hi all! Team green turned blue- Baby Xavier (we've been calling him Avi) is here! Thanks
@katiebartton for such a sweet announcement. We had received due dates btwn June 6th and 10th, so on Friday I was ready to get this show on the road. First, DH and I went to an Italian rest known to throw Preggos into labor. Then there was some sex, a pedi, and a side of Moes (love that queso). The rest is history...
So if you're down for another birth story here goes...
On Sunday morning I started leaking fluid. I wasn't sure what it was exactly (they should really sell those test strips over the counter) and put a pad on to monitor it through the day. I went about more "nesting" and continued to do laundry, vacuum, etc. just in case it really was time.
Around 5pm I decided to call my OB and they sounded frustrated I didn't call earlier if in fact it was amni fluid. So we packed up the car, gave our love to the pup and headed to the hospital around 630. I was sure we'd be coming back home that night bc I really had no other significant signs of labor and kept thinking I was just peeing myself every half hr. Therefore, we didn't tell anyone we were headed to the hospital bc I didn't want to be discouraged if I was sent home.
At around 730pm they did the test and it was amnio and turns out I was having regular contractions and dilated an inch. They officially admitted me at 9. It was around 11pm when I began to actually feel the contractions that were appearing on the monitor. I wasn't being checked regularly as it poses the risk of infection. I turned on my hypnobirthing cd and listened to it w DH as I was contracting every 7 mins or so. The nurse checked me again around 3am and said I was about 5 centimeters. I continued to try and relax, used the birthing ball, walked around and was on hands and knees during some contractions. Oddly enough it felt better to stand thru the pain than lie down.
At around 7am I hopped in the jet tub/shower combo. Felt AWESOME as I was 8 cm at this point. Decided to not go with meds bc I had made it that far without them. An hour later, the doc came in and I was 9.5, was stretched the rest of the way and ready to push. I tried pushing at an angled position for 2 hrs on my back- no baby. Tried on my side, nope. I had the nurses set up the pull bar so I could squat in bed. This was the most progressive method, but bc I was so tired at this point I could barely hold myself up. I give DH a lot of credit as he was brave enough to see what was going on down there and told me he saw the head. Poor guy was crying as I struggled to push. Him seeing the babe gave me a lot of motivation to continue. I laid back down and my doc put the internal monitor on the babes head to make sure his heart rate was still solid (I kept ripping off the fetal monitor). The nurses gave me a catheter to drain my bladder in hopes to make more room. I began to push again and was almost there, but because I was on my 3rd hour, the doc suggested a episiotomy or a cesarean bc Baby's head was not positioned correctly coming down. I opted for the episiotomy and at 11:13am, Xavier James came flailing into the world. They immediately put him on my bare chest and he latched right away. I was stitched up while enjoying the beautiful babe on me. So true what everyone says about any pain diminishing as soon as your see your baby.
DH decided to cut the cord (he said no to this in the beginning, but in the heat of everything he was a changed man!). They gave us our time with him before bathing/weighing/examining.
Avi weighs 7lbs, 11oz and is just about 21in long. Truly the most amazing experience of our lives!!
Thanks for reading our story if you've made it this far! Congrats to all you mamas- this has been quite the adventure!
