I posted here a month or so ago about weaning my one year old son. I got some responses that made me second guess myself. I talked about weaning because I need to have a CAT scan. Originally, the doctor told me that when having this CAT scan, I would not be able to breastfeed for a week afterward. I posted here asking for advice. Some responses said that I may not have to stop at all or that I would need to stop for longer depending on the type of contrast used in the CAT scan. So, I did more research. I'm not sure if this makes sense, so bear with me.
Another doctor in the same practice that I attend told me that I didn't need to stop for a week, but I would need to stop for 24 to 48 hours. I asked my pediatrician and she said that since it is an iodine based contrast, not much of it will get into the breastmilk, she said that I could feed my little guy right away, but I might want to pump and dump for 12 hours after the scan to be safe. Then I called the radiology place to make my appointment and they said that they recommend pumping and dumping for 48 hours before I have the CAT scan and then pumping and dumping once after the CAT scan. I asked why, but the lady on the phone was a bit confused by this question, so I didn't get a real answer. So...based on this information, what would you do? If I pump and dump for 48 hours before, how do I keep my one year old from going crazy when I keep him from nursing for those days? The doctors make it seem so easy to just pump and dump. Thank you in advance for any advice.
