s/o auto question- how about three carseats?

We'd like to get something in which we could have all three carseats (two infant one toddler) in the back/middle seat and NOT have kids in the third seat so that we could take that seat out and use it for strollers, etc.  Does anyone drive a vehicle that fits three carseats in the back/middle?  TIA!

  • We have an expedition..We will have two convertable seats and 1 infant seat.?

  • my grand caravan has tons of room for strollers, etc in the back- without removing the 3rd row.... we'll have the twins in the middle row and DS in the back row.

i'd think any large SUV would fit 3 in the back seat- but yes, you would have to remove the 3rd row to fit other stuff b/c the 3rd row often takes the place of any storage.

  • My Toyota 4-runner holds our 2 infant seats and one convertable seat- it's a tight fit, but it works.  I love having the cargo area for all the 'stuff', so I did'nt want a 3rd row seat at this time.  Besides, how would I be able to reach the child in row 3 if I needed to?  We probably will end up with a larger SUV in a year or so - not sure if three convertables will fit...but for now we are fine.  I've also heard the Honda Pilot is a great SUV for 3 car seats.
  • We have a Dodge Magnum (DH refused to get a minivan - I think a MV would be great though!) and three car seats fit in the back seat.  We have the Radian 65's which are designed to be slimmer than most seats but I've heard other seats fit back there as well.

  • I drive an Escape and have 3 carseats in the back for my 5 yo, 2 yo, and newborn.  We use the Sunshine Radian Kids80 for all 3 girls.  It's a tight fit but they are narrow and are made to fit 3 across.  They go from like 5 pounds to 85 pounds, too.
  • We have an Explorer and we have three seats across. We had one convertible and two infant seats, now of course is two convertibles and one booster. I prefer to save the back for storage.

However, when we do need to put Layla in the 3rd row (like the other night when my nephew also came home with us), our double stroller still fits between the 3rd row and the liftgate. It's TIGHT like that, but doable.

  • Thanks girls- I am still doing my research, but I would really like to be able to reach all three kids if I had to.  Maybe an SUV is a better option for us because most minivans seem to have the two 'chairs' in the middle row instead of a bench seat.  I appreciate the info!
  • My Nissan  Armada fits 3 toddler seats. I had my nephew with us the other day. It was tight, but it worked!
