Best books for dad-to-be

Hi ladies,

I'm looking for suggestions on books that my DH might enjoy and find helpful for this new time in our lives.  He is excited but so worried that he's not going to be a good father.  I'm thinking of getting a couple of books for his first Father's Day :)

Thanks in advance!

Re: Best books for dad-to-be

  • DH really liked Be Prepared: A Practical Handbook for New Dads.  It was funny but also actually informative.  And what I liked is that it wasn't written in a demeaning way, like all new dads are complete morons.  He also read She's Having a Baby and I'm Having a Breakdown, which I don't think he liked quite as much, but was good.

There's also a "For Fathers" section of What to Expect that I had him read.  Not worth buying the book just for that, but if you already own it, have him read that part.

  • @sugahcookie01, that's hilarious!  I started by googling a list of father-to-be books, then asked on here, then researched reviews on Amazon and chose a book based on the bad reviews.  I went with Be Prepared.  I'll try to remember to let y'all know how DH likes it.

  • I bought DH "Dude You're Gonna be a Dad!" -- it's a pretty funny book, but I found it pretty informative for me too!

I ordered a book for DH called "Dad's Expecting, Too!" and apparently its hilarious. I keep hearing weird laughter as he's reading it. There are some tips about going to the OB that DH found fantastic.

I got my DH this one too. I think he likes it so far.

    Pregnancy Ticker

  • My husband loved Eat, Sleep, Poop. It's written by a dad/pediatrician, and the whole idea is "this is when you should freak out, this is when you shouldn't." It helped DH see the logical ways to handle scary things (bleeding faces, baby fevers) and that lots of things that might initially scare you are NBD.

Love this idea! You inspired me to check out chapters on my lunch and I decided on "oh the places you'll go" dr suess (it's specific for reading to your baby in utero which I thought was great. I also got "from dude to dad" By Chris pegula. I read through it a bit myself and quite like it-funny and informative. happy shopping and thanks again for the great idea! :)

**the dude to dad book is the version that says "the diaper dude guide to pregnancy" (just looked it up online and there appears to be a different one as well)
  • My husband would never actually read the books if I would have bought him one, but he would always check the "What to expect" app literally every day. It had tips for him too.

We did get a pregnancy yoga book that had variations for him to do along with me... I'll have to search for it and get the name of it. He really liked it because he started putting on the sympathy weight with me!
