2 year old not falling asleep till late

My son is 2.5yrs old. He takes naps every once in a while but has recently stopped. He has a bedtime of 8:30pm every night and he goes to bed with a snack and a short video. But then he sits up in bed and talks to himself till about 11pm if not later. He sleeps through the night then wakes up at 9 am. Is it bad that he is staying up so late? I feel like a bad mom. Help.

  • I think the short video makes his mind more active hence reducing sleepiness. I avoid any form of video for my kid once tge sun goes down bec i have noticed that it takes her longer to sleep

i love you, my little mooncake mahal kita

  • Yep, no TV before bed for sure.  Read a book instead.

  • I really dont believe a video can keep a child up for 2 1/2 hours. He is clearly not tired.

My kids watch 30 minutes of TV, then we read books for 10 mins.

If he is happy, then I wouldn't worry.
  • we co-sleep so our 2 /12 yr old doesn't go to bed until we do (or vice versa) which is about 10-10:30. Since we work opposite schedules, one of us is always home in the morning so she can sleep as late as she needs to and usually gets up around 8:30, so she still gets about ten hours of sleep. whether she naps or not, she'll still sleep the same at night.

you are NOT a bad mom! the fact that you care enough to worry about it makes you a good mom. : )
as long as he gets in enough total hours of sleep, it's ok.

a bath before bed gets my daughter down easier but it has to be a toy-less bath where she just soaks or else she gets all wild up again.

  • We don't do TV before bed either. It's always a bedtime story or two and that's after he's been bathed, and outside with the tricycle. He'll talk to himself in the crib, but it's never for more than 15 minutes tops.
