Hi ladies! I love reading everyone else's story, so here's mine!
On Monday 6/9 I went to my 40th week appt. I was 40 and 1day. I was still at 3cm with a thick cervix, but my Dr. aggressively stripped my membranes and sent me on my way. I went home and napped with my other children and then the whole family took a walk to the park. I was crampy and uncomfortable and having contractions, but nothing organized or painful. I was also passing blood from the exam. We went home, I cooked dinner and I gradually felt the contractions getting stronger, although still not regular. After dinner, gave the kids their bath and put them to bed. I took a bath myself to relax. After the bath, the contractions got intense quickly (about 9pm) they were still all over the place anywhere from 4-10 mins. I finished packing my bag, my husband showered, nana came over and we headed to the hospital.
I checked into triage at 10:30pm. Apparently, it was busy and I had to wait for the nurse to call me back. I found it really hard to labor in front of other strangers in the waiting room. The contractions were every 4 mins, I was shaking/moaning through them. I was standing, bracing myself on a chair rocking back and forth. I was sweating and felt like the baby was coming. I had my husband ask the secretary what was going on at 11pm. She apologized and finally a nurse called me back directly to a L&D bed (I guess it was busy) at 11:20.
Things moved quickly from here on out. I got an IV, labs drawn, an antibiotic and a spinal by 11:50-12am. The nurse checked me before all this took place and I was at 6cm, 60%effaced and at a -2. I was slightly disappointed as I thought I'd be further along with how intense the contractions were. (My second child, I showed up at 8-9cm and this was way worse). The spinal didn't last long, I was lying on my side being interviewed by a med student and I started feeling the contractions again every 2 mins to the point I had to moan through them again. And then the loudest pop sound happened and my water broke. Immediately, I was feeling intense pressure. The nurse and Dr. came in and checked me- I was complete and at a plus 2.
At this point, they couldn't medicate me anymore. I was scared that I couldn't do it. The nurse said pushing into the contraction would feel better. So, I gave it my all 6 pushes and 2 contractions later and a lot of praying/yelling Oh God!! ( I literally felt like my butt was tearing open) the baby came out. It was instant relief!!!
Francis Allan "Frankie" was born at 1am exactly 6/10. 9lbs 6oz 20" long.
