Where to get LO sized for shoes?

LO needs some proper shoes, and I've been trying to measure them myself, but am failing miserably. I remember seeing something online about Nordstrom being a good place to size baby feet but I can't find it, so I'm not sure they do it anymore. I'd take him to Stride Rite, but apparently the one near us closed (grr.) FWIW, LO is cruising, but not walking on his own yet, but he's very close.

We did stride rite too and then I went and bought him stride rites for way cheaper online!! haha

Some websites have the foot cutouts that you can put under his foot to see? We just try the shoes on her and check to see where her toe falls. We also try sandals in the different sizes first because it's easier to see where her foot is, and then try closed shoes.

The children's department at Dillard's sized L for me. They had a good selection of Stride-Rite shoes, as well.

I get the kids sized at Stride Rite and Payless but like PP said sizing will vary. I have purchased shoes other places but ended up having issues with the fit. I'm to the point if somewhere will not size them and let us try them on it's not really worth the effort.

I went to a specialty children's shoe store. It has been around over 40 years. They seem to know what they are doing. They measure and let the kids run around in the shoes and allow you to return the shoes if there is an issue of any sort. They advise which brands run large or small. Their prices do tend to be higher. Maybe there are similar stores near you.

Thanks all! I think I'll take him to the specialty shoe store once he is walking. I did have him measured at payless, but they measured him at "somewhere between a 4 and a 5" and they don't carry half sizes. The 5s are are really big (plus they had a really lousy selection at our store). I tried to measure his foot myself (both by just making marks on paper and measuring the distance, and with one of those print-outs) - it would have been WAY easier 6 months ago. haha LO does NOT want to cooperate. I also tried doing it while he was sleeping.... no luck there, either. I made a guess, ordered a couple pairs online... all too big. Finally landed with a good-enough pair from Target (size 4, but they seem to run a bit big) - I'm pretty sure he's a wide, too, but these have some give and seem like they'll work for now.

Just a note that our shoe store told us. At this age, their feet can grow pretty quickly. They recommended that if we want to get the most use out of the shoes we buy, they should have about half an inch at the top of the shoe and that should give them about 3 months of growing room. Depending on how well your LO is walking as well, 3/4 an inch at the top of the shoe may not be a bad thing either.

This is so true. My LO also measured 4 1/2 at Stride Rite, but fits size 3 shoes from other places.

I went to Olly and they measured his feet through a computer - it was pretty cool. They carry stride rite shoes as well as other brands that are good for beginner walkers. My LO isn't fully walking so she recommended no shoes in the house, but to start putting them on him when we go out so he can get used to wearing them. She said some kids have a hard time with the transition.

Also thought it would be helpful to know that soft sole shoes are recommended until they are 'running'. My LO was on the verge of running (walking very steadily) so I bought him a cheap pair of koala something from BRU for the transition period. Once their up, they catch on very quickly and I didn't want to spend the $ on stride rite shoes for a few weeks. We bought a pair of Nike sneaks and Sperrys with the hard soles and it's all he's been wearing now.
