February 2014 Moms

For those ladies whose LOs don't do MOTN feedings, what time does LO go to sleep?

We used to do the final feeding between 9 and 10 (anywhere from 15-60 min) and she'd fall asleep after that and wake up between 6:30 and 7:30. However, now we're waking her up at 5:30 every morning, so I definitely think she needs to be sleeping earlier. What's a reasonable final feed/bedtime for a 3-4 month old who STTN? I just fear it'll turn into us putting her to bed as soon as we are home from work!

Re: For those ladies whose LOs don't do MOTN feedings, what time does LO go to sleep?

  • We start the final feeding around 7 and he's usually asleep for the night by 8.  He recently has been waking up around midnight to eat every once in awhile but usually sleeps through the night.  He almost always is up at 4:30 though.  Some days I have to be at work at 6 so it works well.  Other days I don't get home from work until 6 so I have to rush to get things done before starting his bedtime routine.

  • Final feeding at 7 and in bed right after. She will drink 6oz at bedtime. She will usually sleep until 6-7 in the morning. She has been waking and just talking during the night but I don't feed her cause she's not hungry just awake. Hopefully that won't be happening for too long ;)
  • If you are waking her up an hour earlier, could you just put her down an hour earlier too? So between 8 and 9?

My lo does his final feeding around 10-10:30 but he also doesn't wake up until 7 (ideally).
  • I'm glad you started this thread. My LO goes to bed between 9:15-10pm (depending on when he decides to finish his last feed which I start at 8:30) and sleeps til 6:30-7. I am starting to think he needs an earlier bedtime but I can't quite figure out how to make sure he is eating enough... and truth be told I'm not really missing that middle of the night feeding so I'm not sure I really want to return it, ha.

M has his last nursing session around 8-8:30pm. And falls asleep while still eating by 9pm. He doesn't wake up until 5:30am then he falls back to sleep after nursing and wakes up for the day around 7am when his big brother wakes up.

I agree with PP about just putting her to bed an hour or two earlier to compensate for the earlier wake up.

ETA that M is going to be 4 months on the 25th of this month.

Down at 8:30, up at 6.

I know i shouldn't complain, and I'm not really, but 6am is rough when I have to work that night. Makes for a long 26+ hours awake.

I'd like to move bedtime up to 7 or 8, but I'm scared of not having any family time in the evenings, the possible return of MOTN feedings, and waking up at 5:30 even on weekends! She's just too tired now as is, however, so something has to change.

How slowly do I need to move it back? 30 min at a time?

  • I like to tell myself that R misses me so much he wants to hang out with me at 3am. We wake him up at 6, but I really think if he could, he'd eat and go to sleep around 9, then hang out with me at 3, and sleep until 7 or 8

He's up at 4 to eat? Or for the day? @megash113‌ My LO goes down around 10/10:30 (although he's asleep for the night now). He wakes up between 4 and 6 to eat. He goes back to sleep until 8/8:30/9. Except we're currently experiencing sleep regression. (Love my mom, but she blames this on the following things: EBF, making motn too "fun," "allowing" LO to catnap, and my insistence that LO not lay in crib and cry.)

We usually do our last feeding around 8:30/9:00 and he's asleep 9:30/10:00. He usually wakes up around 6:00 to eat then sleeps for another hour and a half. The last three days have been rough though he wants to cuddle all night, but hopefully we go back to the old routine soon.
  • Last feeding is around 7 and she is sleeping by 7:30. She wakes up at 5 for a bottle then sleeps until about 6:30, which is when I will have to get her up anyway when I go back to work. Like @bribbon‌, the time after the kids are in bed at night is too important to us! Early bedtime it is!

  • Our last feeding is around 8:30-9. She is almost always in bed by 9:15. (Sometimes awake, sometimes asleep). She sleeps until we wake her at 6am for a feed. If one of us is home, she goes back to bed til 9. Sometimes we wake her then.

To be clear, that's what we have been doing the last week, since our weight issues are being addressed. Prior, we would nurse to sleep around 9, and she would sleep either until we woke her (because work), or anywhere from 8-9 (she slept until 11am one time-MH let her sleep... i wasn't thrilled).

We swaddle at 8:30, she has her last bottle then, and is out by 9. Some mornings she's up at 5:45, but if she's really tired (or spent an hour slamming her legs into the bassinet at 4am because fun), she'll sleep in to 6:30.
@utpony Ha we deal with this here too! Except hers is more at random times and I try to sleep through it but keep hearing her slamming her legs. It's pretty funny to watch though, because she's still mostly asleep. She'll pick them up, they fall in slow motion and just before they hit the pnp, she picks them back up. Over and over about 5-10 times and then she finally slams them loudly and is fully back to sleep.

This is similar to us.  I nurse her and put her down at like 8 or 8:30 after I get DD1 in bed.  Sometimes she dozes off before that, but we still change her clothes and swaddle her etc at 8 whatever.  We then do a small dream-feed at like 10 or 10:30 when DH and I go to bed, and she sleeps until 6:30ish.

  • Last bottle at 8:30pm, sleeps until 8-9am. Consistently 4-4.5 oz each feeding. Once in a blue moon she will sleepily BF in the middle of the night for a few minutes.

@shellbell3845 to eat. Although last night I gave him a couple minutes longer to see what he did and he fell back asleep. Naturally as soon as I complain is when he does a night of 9-8. Remind me to complain more often.
And naturally, as soon as I post a thread about this, LO starts waking up in the MOTN! It goes both ways...
