TTC after 35

Fert Report In

I got the call from my center with our fert report.  Out of 8 eggs retrieved, 5 were mature and 4 fertilized.  Was hoping for better, but happy it wasn't worse.  We will decide on Friday (which will be day 3) after seeing how they grow if we will batch and freeze these with the other 2 from last month.  We are definitely leaning towards doing that and going for IVF #4.  Will speak with the RE about though. I've always said that I wanted to get as many eggs out as I can now, so I need to hold to those words.  6 just isn't enough in my eyes to proceed to testing at this point. One of the RE's at my clinic always tells me I need to go big or go home so I think I'll take her advice, lol.

Re: Fert Report In

  • 4 embies sounds good to me. If you can get another 4 from doing another retrieval will that be enough for testing? If 10 embies is enough to test then I would definitely do one more retrieval. Maybe you will respond as good as you did last month and have even more.
Fx that your little embies keep growing.

Good luck with your ER tomorrow. I hope everything goes smoothly and you get lots of eggs.

My RE mentioned the batching process as a good option when I inquired about PGD.  He told me it would be a way to improve our odds of getting "normal" embryos because statistically the more you have to test the higher percentage of normals you have.  Plus we wouldn't be wasting time and money by doing the process each time for each individual cycle. It all made sense to us and that is why we are doing it.  At my age the average % of normal eggs is only 20%.  So that is really not a great number.  I think I would like to have at least 10 to test and think I can get there with one more retrieval.

I've honestly never thought about batches to have a better chance of a good egg. Were doing PGD too and I made a change yesterday saying if we only end up with 2-3 I'd just do a fresh and not risk losing a good one to the thawing process just in case and as you know so expensive. I REALLY don't want to have another miscarriage and this whole process is making my head spin, if only I had a crystal ball. I hate this whole process because of the uncertainty, I don't want to make the wrong decision.

I really hope you get your 10!!

  • Pintobean39 - Wishing you all the best today and hope you get much more than you expect.  It would be great if you have enough to still be able to do PGD and make it worth your while. I personally feel PGD is so important especially when there's been prior loss. However, I completely understand that you need to make the best choice for you.  Knowing when and how to go about testing is a very tough and complex decision.Again GL and let us know how you make out.

  • Thanks @PrivateOne‌ my dr and I discussed it today he agrees with me 2 is prob not worth PGD. He says his magic number is 4 but ultimately it's my decision. We ended up getting 19 eggs, 15 were the highest grade, 3 were just ok, and 1 immature. So I'm hoping and praying they fertilize and make it to do PGD because that's what I really want.
