DH you are on my shit list

@-)
Ok. I should preface this by saying I love DH and he's doing so much better as far as bonding with LO and being a good dad and partner.

My SIL, her H, and 4 (count 'em!) DDs have been visiting us a few days. Everyone wants to see LO and be a doting cousin. But Lawd it has been overwhelming to entertain (and feed) these extra people.

Tonight I was soooooo tired so I told DH hey let's just order a pizza and cleanup will be easy 8-> but no. He is on this Wolfgang puck kick where he thinks he is a cooking champion. I know I know, I shouldn't complain about a husband that loves to cook, and he's a pretty good cook too.

But....

He will use EVERY DAMN dish, bowl, utensil, pot and pan in my entire damn kitchen. It doesn't matter what he is cooking. I asked him tonight to pleaaaaase consolidate the mess he makes...only to watch him take shredded cheese out of the bag and put it in a teensy corningware dish...just to turn around and dump that dish into a larger dish. :-w [-X

Then after dinner (10 minutes past LO's bedtime), the kitchen is a mess from prep + 8 people eating and DH gives me a peck on the cheek and says "I made you this delicious dinner so you do the dishes."

I just wanted pizza!!!! X(

Re: DH you are on my shit list

  • My H pulls this shit all the time, just on a smaller scale because its only us eating.  EVERY G*dD*mn dish in the house, no shit!  He usually makes something yummy - Sunday morning he made me fabulous Huevos Rancheros - but there is still red chili all over the cabinets, etc...  It's nice to not cook a meal, but cleaning up is just as much work, lol.  On Mother's Day we had waffles, eggs, etc... but guess who did the cleaning an hour later.  Sigh....

  • My mom and FIL do this when they cook at my house. Then they leave. Is rather just order pizza, too, than clean up the mess. I guess it's better than cooking AND cleaning up, which is what happens when I make dinner "/

Haha I just had this exact same complaint about DH last night! He invited my parents over for dinner so he could fry them some catfish he caught over the weekend. As he was cooking, I whispered to my mom that while I'm extremely grateful he cooks, he makes a huge mess and uses triple the amount of dishes I would! And of course afterwards he said that since he cooked I get to clean it up. It's interesting that when I cook I still have to clean it up too! X(

  • This must be a guy thing cuz my DH does it as well. He will use twice the amount of dishes I use to make the same exact meal. It's makes me crazy. I'm going to cross my fingers you get pizza tomorrow!
  • When DH and I started dating he knew I hated dishes.
When I cook, I try to use the least dishes possible because I don't wash anything by hand, and I hate cleaning the kitchen.

When he cooks/bakes he is the same.
And he is always the one cleaning up after either of us cooks.

He loves that I love to cook, so he is completely happy cleaning up.

    :)
    Sorry everyone.
  • DH is the same. The food is pretty good most of the time as he's just learning, but then I get to clean up, I mean NOTHING even gets put in the dishwasher and he's never heard of wiping the sides down EVER! So if he takes the dishes to the kitchen he just leaves them on the side. If I decide to leave them to see if he will put them in there he just fills up more sides. Doesn't even stack them close to the dishwasher, I think if he thinks they are in the same room it counts.

Also, when I cook I clean up.

  • We have the opposite. I am the one who cooks and tends to use a lot of extra dishes, utensils. Thankfully, DH is so happy to have a hot and yummy meal to come home to that he helps out with dishes and clean up.

I have always been a messy cook...on our third date I cooked pene and vodka sauce at MH's then apartment. When he moved out two years later we were still finding sauce splatters on the walls....no clue why he married me :)
  • Right there with ya! Like @Jt7dreamz‌ I clean as I cook, so very little mess after. Fortunately, DH has started to learn to do this as well

That's why I hate the "I cook, you clean" rule because my DH makes a huge mess in the kitchen like that too! Every utensil, pan, bowl, mixer, everything is dirty at the end! Whereas since I know I'm normally the one to clean up after, I'll do one-skillet dishes and use one skillet, one knife, one cutting board, one stirer, that's it!!

    Was it delicious, at least?
