2nd Trimester

STEVIA DURING PREGNANCY?

Hi all! I will be 12 weeks tomorrow :-) I have used Stevia here and there through out the first trimester. My doctor says is 100% fine but I'm really regretting using it just because I feel very guilty and now worried about. I'm stopping it from here on out. Anyone have experience using it diring pregnancy?

Re: STEVIA DURING PREGNANCY?

  • My endo and OB told me not to use it.  They said Splenda does not cross over the placenta to the baby, so I've been using that.

  • I was told that it's safe and the better alternative to Splenda. Was told Splenda has a small link to miscarriages.

  • I stay away from all artificial sweeteners because they make me feel sick-- stevia included. I've read a few places that Stevia is the safest because it's the most natural, but always stick to what your doctor says. If they say it's fine, don't worry about it.

Stevia should not be listed as an artificial sweetener. Its not man made. Its a plant extract.

ETA: if you are worried about the processed product you can always get a Stevia plant and tear up the leaves and add that to your drink.

Stevia is perfectly fine to use, it is a natural sweetener extracted from a plan. In fact my neighbor grows it in her garden.  I use it all the time, I like to do half stevia and half regular sugar.
  • Thank you guys! Feel better :-)just found out we are having a GIRL .....hope you all are feeling your best!!!
