Gtky: your name

How did your name come about? From television? From family member? Popped into your parents head some random day?

Re: Gtky: your name

  • No where in particular. My name was popular the year I was born and my mom liked it.

I HATED it growing up. Everyone still spells it wrong in email or says it wrong and it seems like it's a common name. Silly people.

After both great grandmas on my dad's side. Both had my name.
Although it was odd visiting my grandfathers grave, he's buried by his mother. So it's like I'm looking at my grave, same first and (maiden) last name. Heebie jeebies.

I should probably ask them!  I think they just liked it (Alison).
  • It was just a name my mom always liked. If I had been a boy I would've been Justin.

  • My mom went to HS with a girl named April. They weren't friends but my mom always liked her/thought she was really sweet- so the name stuck!
(Basically I might be really creepy to some random woman in Indiana).

  • My great-grandfather named me. My mom picked Kirsten, but he liked the meaning of Kristin more.

  • My Mom was real original, and named me the most popular baby name of the year.

She didn't find out the sex and didn't have any names picked. She wasn't a procrastornator or anything. ;)

I'm the youngest of three girls, and I think my parents were hoping for a boy to pass along the family name "Scott." So when I turned out to be a girl, they randomly picked a name (Kathryn) they thought went with the middle name of Scott.

ETA: But everyone calls me Katie.

My parents could not decide on a name for me.  Here I was, born into this world and still nameless.  Nothing my mom suggested my dad liked so when my dad suggested my name my mom said THATS IT!

Yep, this is pretty much my story too. My mom wanted to name me Jana or Denise but my dad didn't. So she just went with what he suggested (Jane).
  • Not after anyone but my dad being African American they wanted one child's with an African name and my older brother got the "American" name so I was either Aisha or Imani and they went with Aisha. I couldn't see myself as an Imani. They both mean life though which they chose because my mom said I was full of life already in her stomach. My LO was and is exactly the same as I was :)

  • My mom wanted to name me Leah Sage but my dad wanted Rachel Anne daddy won! not sure where it came from, we all have biblical names but I'm not sure if that's the reason
  • I was born on Easter Sunday & my mom tried to name me bunny. Thank God my dad wouldn't have it! Good lookin out daddy.

So they picked the popular name of the year (Stephanie). In middle school I suffered from common mane syndrome & went through a phase of signing my name "Steffani"... I wanted to be speshell.
  • My bio dad's name is Loren. My middle name was after a character in Gone With the Wind.

Now, my mother's name sort of has a funny story. My grandparents couldn't agree on a name. They were verbally arguing so loud that they could be heard in the waiting room. My grandmother was a stubborn woman. She looked at the L&D nurse and asked what her name was. She replied, "Bonnie Diane". My mom's name is Bonnie Diane. Lol.

  • I was named after my great grandmother who passed away while my mom was pregnant with me

  • My mom heard my name somewhere. It was gaining in popularity at the time, but my mom decided to give me a made up spelling of it so that I was "unique".

My mom watched a ton of Lauren Bacall movies while she was pregnant with me and fell in love with the name (Lauren).

My mom, my sister and I all have the same middle name. It comes from my great grandma.
