We went in at 1pm on Sunday, June 1st for a cytotec induction. He was measuring 9lbs5oz and although estimated weights at 38 weeks can be WAY off, I decided to go ahead with induction. I'm a L&D nurse and I think that this was a case (for me anyway) of the more you know, the more terrified you are.
After only one dose of cytotec I was contracting every 2-3 minutes. I needed Stadol around 10pm and apparently put on a show after getting the pain meds. My water broke on it's own at 10:30 and I made it until 4 am the next morning before begging for an epidural. I was only 1.5cm but still banging out contractions every 2-3 min and knew I wouldn't be able to sit still if I didn't get the epidural at that point.
Epidural was the best thing I've ever done. Hurt way less than the IV. Heck, it hurt less than the woman digging around on my toenail at my last pedicure. They were going to start pitocin at 6am but baby had a few decels so we held it.
I got an IUPC at some point that morning and labored without pitocin for the rest of the day. He had another round of decels around noon that resolved but my doc & I decided to go ahead with a section if I hadn't made any more change in an hour because of his heart rate. I was only 3cm at that point.
An hour later I was 6cm & continues making good change until 6:15 when I was complete & ready to push! My best friend (who lives 9 hours away) walked through the door right before I started pushing. Talk about a sob fest. I had no idea she was coming.
I pushed for 45 min with my husband, my mom, my best friend, and about 6 nurses in the room (I didn't mind bc I work with them all). Corbin Quinn was born at 7:16 pm...of course a nurse would have a shift change delivery! He had the cord around his neck so was a little stunned at delivery, but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a little roughing up by the nurses to get him to cry. It was a wonderful experience & even with the tears and painful bottom it was worth every bit!
