We Need a Car. Like, Yesterday...

DH's car is a POS. I hate it and it's old and it's falling apart. Our son's car seat fits in behind the passenger seat, but NO ONE can sit there. Which is fine, we just take my car everywhere and it works. However, it will become IMPOSSIBLE once DS2 is here and we need a second seat in the car (daycare is on DH's way to work and would add an extra 40 minutes on to my commute if I were to take them).

Sooooooo.... we are both taking a day off work tomorrow to drive to 4 dealers and will spend about 7-8 hours in the car (there and back home), plus time talking to the dealers and working on the deals. It's going to be a looooooooong day, but we are hopeful that we will be able to find something that works! Please send good vibes our way. I'm going to shank someone if we don't have a car soon. The stress is turning me into a looney.

  • Good luck tomorrow! Not sure what you're considering but we love our minivan. Good gas mileage and lots of space for the money.

Please do research while out! Here are some pointers that are worth it -

Get a carfax (if buying used)

Utilize truecar.com- you will see what people aRe really paying for the same car on your area/state

If buying new, after you find the car you like, use Edmonds.com you can negotiate before you even go to the dealer. We've done this with 3 new car purchases, and literally walked in, signed the paperwork that was waiting for us, and walked right out. No hassle, no all day process.

Have a payment calculator on your phone. You'd be surprised the hidden dealer fees or other fees the dealerships like to throw in without telling you.

Good luck! And happy car buying!

  • FX you find the perfect car. We bought a '12 Chevy Malibu last year at Carmax and it was pretty painless. The car is perfect for me. We went yesterday again for something for H since his truck is a pos, decided on the Tahoe but havn't made the jump yet.

  • Good luck! Just an FYI - you can take your carseat(s) with you to try out in the vehicles you're considering.

  • We ended up finding a 2011 Kia Sedona with low miles :) I'm so excited! We used cars.com and were able to get good info from the carfax. I'm very, very happy. We also brought the carseats along to make sure they both fit correctly and we are set! Just in time too. DH's dad's car broke down, so he's able to use our old, too small car in the mean time. Woo!
