Potty training timing??

Hi everyone! I have a question on potty training timing for you ladies. My son is 16 months old (born 2/3/13) and we are expecting a little brother or sister this coming November! I am a teacher and will be off in the summer, and thought about starting the potty training process since I will be home with him for a couple months. He wont be 18 months until August and with the new baby coming in November. I also will be home with him and the baby on leave for 3 months until February-ish... There are a lot of events taking place in the future that I feel like I should just wait until the chaos slows down. He isn't quite "ready" at this point in my opinion and I absolutely do not want to rush him. Any thoughts or experiences on this?! I feel like only other moms would know instead of Google/articles. Thanks in advance ladies! xo

Re: Potty training timing??

  • If he doesn't seem "ready," then my vote is to not even bother until he seems like he is.  If you start early, I always think you're just training yourself to put your kid on the potty, not training them to go on it.

Potty training made me nutty with an older kid at 2.5 years old, I can't even imagine trying to do it with a newborn in the mix....

  • Thank you ladies for the help -- My gut was telling me to wait it out. I def do not want to potty train twice, especially with a newborn! Thanks again for all the feedback :) xo
