IF and Essential Oils???

Hello All,

So my sister-in-law is big into home remedies and doesn't use hardly any conventional medicine what-so-ever. And at a recent family gathering DH mentioned to her that we were having some issues and that my OBGYN had prescribed Clomid and that we were having some doubts. (In the beginning I was hesitant to start medications because I didn't know if I was following God's plan or my own. The way I see it now, it doesn't matter how many meds I take, if God has other plans for me they will be made apparent.) But to get back to the point...

So my sister-in-law shows me this book: Modern Essentials - A contemporary guide to the therapeutic use of essential oils. I read through it and it actually does make sense. There are chemical formulae and reactions that prove to my scientific mind that this isn't just mumbo jumbo - they actually did some research. Plus I have my sister-in-law's testimony that it has helped her husband's headaches and drastically reduced her own rheumatoid arthritis symptoms.

So I look through the book and the main oil they recommend for IF is called Clary Sage. It is described as being able to balance out female hormones, particularly those hormones concerning reproduction. (I will note that it is also used to induce labor and is therefore not recommended after BFP.)

But I guess my main question is: Has anyone ever used essential oils successfully - even if not specifically for IF? If you did use them to treat IF, was it combined with more traditional medications or separate? From the research I've done there's nothing saying that there are any drug interactions to be concerned with...

Re: IF and Essential Oils???

  • No I've never tried any essential oils. I can't imagine them interfering with medication but I'd have to ask my RE first. There are a lot of herbal remedies that can hurt you. Personally I wouldn't try anything like that over medication but if it makes someone feel better more power to them and I'd say try it.

I do use tea tree oil in my coconut oil to treat my hair once in a while to prevent dandruff/dry scalp. Does that count?
    Fucking bump!!!!

  • OK! Thanks a lot! I'll have to see if there's any naturopaths in my area... I think there are a few my mother-in-law has worked with but they have all been more nutrition and fitness focused than IF. But thanks again for your input!
