Dreamfeeding (psa)

My friend told me about this last week I started trying it with my now 7 week old and we are all sleeping better for it. What you do is set an alarm for 10/15 minutes before you think baby will wake up crying to eat, pick them up sleeping and touch bottle or nipple to their lower lip. They will open their mouth still asleep and start sucking. They don't require burping because they naturally suck slower when asleep so when they finish eating still asleep you just lay them back down and go back to bed! No fussing, crying etc and the whole thing takes like 10 minutes.

  • Seems good in theory, but wouldn't you want your child to wake when they are hungry - not when you think they are hungry?

I'm guessing though at some point hopefully all babies do this naturally ... and longer stretches. Oh dare to dream.
  • My co worker did this with her baby and swears by it. She didn't start it until baby was around 12 weeks and STTN or only waking up once. She FF so I bet that makes a difference because you don't need a good latch like you do with BF
  • We did this with ds1 but only for a feeding right before I went to bed. He was also older like 8+weeks. It helped stretch his first sleep session.

  • I just wait for DS to wake. I feed him then and he falls back to sleep while eating. Still doesn't take longer than 10 min.

Yes, last night I did a diaper change, feed and burp in 20 minutes. I would feel bad not doing a diaper change at a feeding if it had been a few hours. And hoe do you keep them asleep through that!?

I change DS and burp him before a feed as he goes back to sleep fast and is such a lazy burper then. It avoids all the gas building up. This takes about 20-30 minutes and that includes my bathroom break and coconut oil application

However, the daytime is a whoooooole different game. He's such a non sleeper then a cranky pants.

I use swaddlers if she doesn't have a blue line I don't change her, if she needs to be changed I do it first she will pretty much drowse/sleep through it. When she wakes up hungry she full on panic screams sometimes in like 0 to 60 , gets herself so worked up it takes me sometimes rest of the night to be able to put her down. Like 2:30 am feeding turns into no more sleep that night.for me so by 4 pm the next day I am swaying on my feet.
  • We get DS2 up to eat as soon as he starts fussing in his sleep. We notice he wakes crying 20 minutes after he starts. He still wakes up but not fully screaming.

I try to do the same. I EP so if I hurry I can warm the bag of milk in the sink, pee and get the bag into the bottle before all hell breaks loose.if I get him before the scream fest he'll fall asleep quick and sleep through the diaper change. At night he's too hungry to attempt to change him before feeding him.

I do this too. Gives me time to get the bottle ready. I honestly don't change her diaper at every feeding, usually once a night (unless it's poop, I always change that).

This is what I do too. Honestly, I've always viewed dreamfeeding as something that doesn't really do anything to actually help them sleep longer, they would have woken up if they weren't fed while asleep and that's not technically getting a long stretch out of them. The longer stretches will come when their stomachs are big enough to hold more. I get why people do it, but it's not for me.
