Where does your LO nap?

I'm struggling to get LO to nap anywhere but on me. I wanted her to nap in the PnP downstairs but as soon as I put her down she cries, but she'll nap on me after a feed. I don't really want to put her in her crib but I will if I have to. She's 14 weeks and some days she only naps at 8pm then goes to bed after her 10pm feed. She wakes between 6-7am. What are your LOs nap signals?

Re: Where does your LO nap?

  • LO has four main napping areas. I just figure out where to put him based on where I am in the house at the moment. When I'm in my room he'll nap in the PnP. When I'm in the main part of the house, if I'm on the sofa I'll let him sleep in his Boppy next to me. If he seems to really want to be rocked while he's napping, I put him in the Mamaroo! He feels like he's being rocked and I am free to do stuff around the house. Last if he's really tired I put him in his crib in his room and watch him with the monitor.

During the day I have no problems with him napping in his crib or PnP, but at night he has that startling reflex that wakes him up right away! Legs and arms kicking all over the place. The only thing that works at night is the Halo sleep sack. It keeps him nice and bundled, if not he'll only want to sleep on me.

Nap signals are pretty much crankiness and he just looks tired.

  • We do one nap in the PnP, one in the crib. then she gets one either in the rocking chair/couch being held, or the swing, or being carried (not likely).

    we nap swaddled.TIGHT.
  • Swing. After falling asleep from swaddling, rocking, and binky.

  • Morning nap in the swing, afternoon nap in the crib and then usually a final cat nap in the swing. Sometimes the afternoon nap is in the PnP in my room, but I prefer the crib to get him used to sleeping in his room (and so I don't have to be quiet and worry about waking him).

  • In his crib, in his room. For better or worse he's never liked the RnP or swing very much.

He's 12 weeks and does three to four naps a day and approx. two five-hour stretches at night.

We don't swaddle anymore, but he is a tummy sleeper.
  • Nap? What's that? DD doesn't seem to know that word;)

Always in her bassinet attachment of the stroller. We're going to move to the crib next week. Usually swaddled unless she's hot and too cool for the swaddle. Starts off with a paci and then spits it out when asleep. If we're out it's in her wrap or car seat.

Sleepy signs are yawns , eye rubbing , face planting on my shoulder and her whiny talk. Late signal is crying.

She naps in her crib, in her swing, in her PnP, in her carseat (if we're on the road), or on me! Anywhere goes!

  • my lo still passes out wherever he feels like it, but when he is overtired/fighting sleep we put him in his swing. we use pacifiers very sparingly, but that is one of the times we will give him one. we put it on its lowest swinging setting and make sure there isn't a ton of light/noise going on. he usually passes out in a minute or two.

  • Colton naps either in his swing or in his bouncy chair thing. We only put him in the crib at night for bed.
  • She used to nap in her crib but lately she's been napping in my bed. I find she sleeps much longer in our bed.
  • I have a hard time getting him to nap, so I often have to take him for a walk and he'll sleep in his stroller. By the time we get home he's awake. Sometimes I run errands
just so he'll take a quick nap while I drive. Naps are a struggle in our house. I guess I shouldn't complain since he's a great night time sleeper, but I know he's exhausted by the end of the day. It's a work in progress here.
  • Both naps are in the swing. He usually has a short nap max 1hr in the morning and a longer nap 3 hrs in the afternoon. But the swing has to be moving and he has to have a blanket tucked tight around him. Really need to start trying naps in his crib to get him use to it
  • I was hoping to stay away from the same routine as night time but I might have to resort to swaddling before putting her in the PnP. I'll keep trying.

  • LO always sleeps in crib at night with white noise. She usually naps longest in her R&P with the soundtrack from Haibane Renmei playing :P If she wakes up from a nap even briefly and I'm not there she tends to get upset, which means I'm usually chained to the room she is in. Sometimes I'm able to get her to nap in her crib but she'll usually wake up sooner. She hates having her arms swaddled and will freak out about it.

Sleep cues: Rubbing eyes, yawning, looking tired

Overtired signs: Fussy, rubbing her face all over the place and knocking her pacifier out multiple times and then getting upset it's gone

  • LO takes most naps in the PNP in our room, which is where she sleeps at night too. Sometimes if she's not having it then we try the swing or ergo/woven. Usually as the day progresses she gets less inclined to nap in the PNP, so we get more creative.
She gets fussy right about the hour mark after she wakes up so that's when we start the nap "routine". Offer food, snuggle, rocking, soothing. Usually works if she's not growing.
  • LO naps just about anywhere right now. Some days he is more sensitive to noises and he wakes easily, so those days he is in the pnp in my room or the crib in DS1's room. (Assuming DS1 doesn't need it for his own nap)

Days where noise doesn't wake him, he sleeps on the couch (corner cushion surrounded by 'blockades'), the infant swing or the floor.
If I'm doing something upstairs he will go to the crib, pnp or my bed.
It's tough to keep the 1.5 year old quiet, so LO has gotten fairly used to sleeping while its noisy.

Signs he's tired...he fusses while eating, yawning, may rub his eyes...and passing out.

Sometimes he naps from 11ish to 2 ish, then maybe a half hour nap once or twice in the afternoon, sometimes shorter naps first with the longer nap from 4-7ish.
Bed time around 9pm, official wake up time between 7 and 9am with a few wake-ups through the night.
  • Usually in her crib, but if she's having a hard time staying asleep and I know she NEEDS a nap, I'll put her in our bed, hold her or put her in her swing.
  • Her longest nap of the day (usually from about 2 - 4 or 4:30) seems to be best in my bed.  We don't co-sleep at all, but I noticed she sleeps great on my side of the bed, I just push all the pillows out of the way and cover her legs with a bit of comforter.  Maybe because it smells like mama, there's a ceiling fan in there - I don't know, but she sleeps very soundly then!
