Best wrap for 1 month old

FTM wondering which wrap everyone likes best. We have a bjorn, but I'm looking for something more comfy for LO, something she will sleep in while I do things but also as I sit and watch tv. This way I can easily get up without waking her. TIA for your input!

Re: Best wrap for 1 month old

  • Also- I am nursing so if anyone has experience nursing while using a wrap I'd love to hear about it!

  • I have lots of info in my siggy links - www.becomingmamas.com/babywearing if you are mobile - I'm also a babywearing educator with babywearing international so happy to answer any questions ;)  My personal favorite carriers are woven wraps but there are lots of great options.  Do you have a sense of what sort of carrier type you'd prefer (buckles vs. tying, etc.)?

There are some great videos on nursing in various carriers here:  https://babywearinginternational.org/articles.php
  • I was going to suggest checking out the Attachment board, but you got @ncbelle herself! I was going to suggest her siggy.

@ncbelle, Congrats on your new baby. I'm a few weeks behind you and you were an April '11 mom with me :)

Sorry to take over your post OP!

  • I am having good luck with the K'tan breeze.
  • Well it sounds like an expert has already weighed in but I'll share my experiences with my 3 week old. I have a Moby and a ring sling (Maya). I love both! The baby feels more secure in the Moby and the Moby feels like the weight is better distributed, so I like it for around the house wearing or if I'm sitting at the computer. The downside is wrapping it-- it drags on the ground as you're putting it on and that bothered me way more than I thought it would. It also takes a minute. But once it's on it's a piece of cake to put baby in and you're good to go!

The Maya is super quick to put on and slip baby into. I feel the need to have an arm available to support baby's head while he's in it (cuddle hold). Also the Maya is murder on the back unless I'm up and moving. But for out and about stuff- easier than Moby.

Hope any of this helped :)

How big is baby? I loved the Ergo with infant insert from the beginning, but my LO was over 8lbs when born. I'd also look into the Becco Gemini as its similar to the Ergo but doesn't need the infant insert.

I tried the Moby wrap and never was able to get the hang of tying it. I couldn't figure out how tight to tie it, and anytime I tied it as tight as shown in videos I couldn't get LO into the wrap easily. BUT if you could get past that, I think it'd be a wonderful, widely available option.

  •  I love my Ergo with the infant insert.  The insert is a pain but it is convenient.  I have taken my 5 week old out a few times in it and can see myself taking him out in it a lot more but more when he has full head control and reaches the weight limit on it which is 12lbs to stop using the insert.

I never wanted to use the bjorn because of the whole ergonomically correct thing for their hips.  The bjorns are not great for those.

I just ordered the Moby wrap on recommendation from my doula who weighed in on an issue I was having with my lilttle guy.  I will hopefully be using it this weekend as I'm getting it tomorrow.  From what I understand the Moby is great for infants, great for all day wearing and great for nursing too.  Looking forward to trying it out!

    Good luck!

@ncbelle- thanks for these video links! I always wanted to be a baby wearer, but was too intimidated with DD because she was so little and seemed so fragile. This thread inspired me to go out and buy a Moby wrap and DS and I have used it successful a few times over the last few days. Thanks!!!
