bad sleeping baby? Magic Sleep Suit? Come in!

Well, my third (and last) child has all of the most terrible sleeping habits rolled into one. Name a terrible sleep habit and he has it. I am too tired to deal and lazy. Here is my question... he is still swaddled at 6 months. I know!! Is it worth getting the Magic Sleep Suit, or should I just tear the band-aid off quickly. signed, exhausted working-outside-of-the-home mom of 3, with 2u2

  • Starting Friday night, when you have a couple days off, just rip the bandaid and go for it.

  • I swapped out the halo sack he outgrew for receiving blankets & still swaddle him. I will continue to swaddle, & let him wean himself off of it. I'm hoping for things to take the same route as DS1 took. I kept swaddling & as he got older, he would get his own arms out at night. He would whine here & there sometimes & I'd let him do that for 5 mins max before going to him. ( I cannot do CIO). In time, he eventually didn't care if he was swaddled or not. I knew he was good to go with out it when he immidiately rolled to his side when I laid him down without it. 99% of the time since then (he is 2 1/2 now) he is a great sleeper who STTN unless he is not feeling well.

I feel like I just rambled & didn't make sense, but I guess it was just gut feelings I went with at the time. Whatever I got the impression he needed, I gave him.

  • I loved using the Magic sleep suit but it's really only good for a short time frame. As soon as your LO can roll over from back to tummy or tummy to back in it, it's time to put it away. So you may not get much use out of it. It really helped us transition from RnP to crib sleeping.

We keep him in a sleeveless halo sack now and it seems to be working ok.
  • We're having some luck with the Zippidee zip sleep sack. It's like a halo sack with covered arms. She still wakes ~2times a night for a pacifier.

  • We were late to unswaddle too, like we just did it last week. I tried in the past and he would sleep restlessly and wake a lot. He wasn't ready (even tho he was rolling, I know, bad mom). When we started to unswaddle, he would roll to his side and sleep better! Last night he went all the way to 430am. Not even any "I need my paci" wake ups before that time. Anyway, I vote no on sleep suit. Just one more thing to wean from later.
