Bottle Nipples

For those that are bottle feeding, when will/did you move up to the next size nipple? How do you know when it's time to go to a faster flow? I feel like it takes forever for DS to finish a bottle and I'm wondering if a faster flow may help with that?

Re: Bottle Nipples

  • Such a good question! I've been wondering that too. I have the dr. Brown bottles and they come with guides. It says to move to the next level around 3 months. My sister changed at 2.5 because she felt my niece was getting frustrated. My LO still drinks well from the level 1 so I'll stick with them for a little while longer (she's 10 weeks).

  • My LO (8 weeks) was having bad gas and spitting up issues with the Dr. Brown's level 1 nipples, so we switched him to the preemie/newborn nipples. It has actually helped his issues immensely and he doesn't seem frustrated by the slower flow at all. I guess this isn't much help though since we went backward on nipple flow!

We use avent and I generally follow guidelines but when I move to #2 she was leaking too much milk/formula and choking herself so I moved her back to the #1 nipple. I'd recommend following guides but then watch how he reacts to the new one. You'll be able to tell.
