K'tan users

What carrier positions are you using now? I only know of one for an infant and I am not really a fan of it. I tried the kangaroo once and liked it, then read it should be used for infants (anyone know when you can use that?)

Re: K'tan users

  • I have the ergo, but we are taking LO on a plane so I ordered the k'tan cause it's easier to hold them.. So far I hate it cause I can't find any position I feel comfortable with. I'm probably just dumb and can't figure it out

  • I use the hug position. DD loves it. And usually I can put her in it asleep or get her out of it asleep.

When I purchased it at a specialty (re natural) baby store here that's how they showed me how to use it.
  • Kangaroo. Like hug position but feet tucked in. I love it. She naps there frequently.

We started kangaroo and switched to hug around seven or eight weeks, but I'm mostly using the ring sling these days.

I do the tummy to tummy position as if he were laying flat on my chest and froggy/M-position his legs. It works well and he falls asleep usually.

Eta: sometimes he will push off my chest to look around which is annoying. I'll just use one hand to steady his head until he has full control of it.
  • Their legs are spread in the hug position right? Is that safe for their hips? I want to use that position, but I tried it and panicked because her legs were so wide!

That worries me too! I also read that the position shouldn't be used until babies have complete control of their head/neck muscles.

  • Their website has great videos. Also, DD is 8 weeks and we use Kangaroo still.
  • Typically you want to start the hug position when they start pushing with their feet in the kangaroo hold. We just switched to legs out and i feel so much more comfortable with it, he's flatter against me so i don't have a huge lump on my chest
  • My little guy loves the hug position.
  • I use kangaroo and hug pretty equally now. She's 9 weeks and seems to like hug better because she can look around more easily.
