2nd Trimester

prenatal pills

I have been forgetting to take my prenatal's lately, I did really well in my first trimester and now I have been so busy that I forget sometimes. I forget maybe twice a week. I am worried that this will affect my baby. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

Likely your baby will be fine if you miss some prenatals here and there. They provide essential nutrients you may be missing in your diet, but missing one here and there won't do much harm.  There are days where I still feel so sick to my stomach that I have to skip my prenatal (like one every other week, on average, but it depends upon the week).

I take mine every night before bed as part of my bedtime routine and that helps me remember to take them. Try to make it part of your morning/evening routine - put it next to the toothpaste so that when you brush your teeth at night/in the morning you are reminded to take the vitamin too.

  • I think it should be ok.  I have forgotten here and there myself.  I like to take mine with dinner and try and make it a routine.

  • Prenatal vitamins (and any vitamins) are "supplements", meaning they are secondary to your regular diet. You *should* be getting all the vitamins you need by eating a healthy diet, vitamin pills are "just in case" to fill any holes.

Humans have been having babies for millions of years before vitamin pills were ever invented.

  • I have my prenantal vitamins in a little pill container.
Monday - Friday I work.  I put my prenatals on my desk so I see them every day and I remember to take them.

Saturday - Sunday I put my prenatals on the table where I sit.  When I get ready to eat a meal, I see them.

  • Agree to set a reminder in your phone. I found I was forgetting a lot so a phone reminder every night has helped. I haven't missed a day since I set the reminder!

THIS. I have forgotten mine a couple of times, but it helps to have the bottle sitting right next to my bed as a reminder. If you're eating healthily, you should be completely fine. There are plenty of pregnant women who actually choose not to take them at all and just make sure to maintain a very healthy diet.

This, and, the folic acid portion of the prenatal is actually the most important component of the supplement and is critical during the first trimester.  I take high dose folic acid in addition to the prenatal, and my MFM was fine if that was all I was able to "get down" during the first trimester.  Also, many foods are now fortified with folic acid.

  • If its safe to have them by your bed next to your water you will remember each night!
  • My dr actually told me if was ok to take them every other night bc I was having issues going to the bathroom. You should be fine
  • I am forgetting everything too. My DH reminds me every night. That helps a lot!
