Crib Bedding Question

I need opinions on crib bedding I'm ordering from etsy. I've been working with a woman on a custom order because I couldn't find what I was looking for and so far I'm happy with what we've come up with. My question is, am I ordering everything I will need? Since it's a custom order with fabric she is buying, I want to make sure I have everything I need now, rather than trying to find matching pieces later if we forgot something.

She is making me the following:

-2 fitted crib sheets (figured it would be a good idea to have a second)

-3-sided crib skirt

-window valence

I know that you can't really put much else in the crib when the baby is little, but would it be smart to look into sheets as well? (not fitted but regular)? I wasn't going to do a bumper or crib rail. Is this good or anything else you can think of?

Re: Crib Bedding Question

  • My mother and grandmother sewed a lot for us for DD. If you have a glidder or any type of seating in the nursery it is nice to have one or two matching pillows. They also made covers for the changing pad and a cute bunting banner. Depending on where you live sheets can come in very handy in the summer when it is too warm to cover the baby with a blanket.
Do you have a pic of the fabric?
    :)

I think a changing pad cover would be a nice touch, too, as mentioned above. Maybe not necessarily in the exact same fabric/print, but something similar to carry the same look/color scheme through out. Good luck!
  • Any chance you want to share the seller with me!? I've been looking at etsy and there are just so many people selling stuff!

I don't have any input on bedding as I am a FTM as well. :)

  • I would get more than 2 fitted crib sheets. Honestly, I think 3-4 is much better. I'd also get a blanket for after one if you're doing custom. Plus, you can use it with the carseat. If you're going to do the change pad cover, get at least 2, if not 3.
  • I also don't think the change pad covers are that big of a deal. You will go through those way to fast to care. I have 4 and there were points my change pad didnt even have a cover because we went through them so fast.

I think you're good, maybe a pillow if you have a chair in the nursery? I think a 3rd sheet would be good to have but I'd just buy a solid one instead of spending the money on another custom one. Save the solid store bought sheet for a back-up.

  • Honestly that is all you really need.  I'd get maybe one or two more crib fitted sheets just incase LO gets sick and you have to change the sheet more than once before you get to the laundry.

I got a quilt and hung it on the wall as part of the decor.
  • Yeah, I think you're good. I would also buy some plain sheets in coordinating colors, but if wouldn't have them made. Could she do a light blanket for when you can put one on the baby. A changing pad cover would be cute, but not necessary.

  • I would get a rail cover. It was a life saver during teething. We initially only had the front one but DD started chewing on the side rail. The set we bought came with bumpers so I added extra ties with bias tape and repurposed those as side rail covers.
Also I'm with @Maelara‌ get at least 3-4 crib sheets. But personally I would buy a couple of custom and then buy some basic off the shelf solid for the backups.

  • Thanks all. I think I'll probably stick with the order I have now but I did ask her for pricing on the changing table cover. I'll buy plain colored back-ups for crib and changing pad though. The custom is just so pricey I don't want to spend too much more.

I'm going to try to figure out how to get pics up here to show!

I also agree with the more fitted crib sheet recommendation! I also had a matching changing pad cover for DD that was cute :) hope you share photos when you get it...I just love Etsy!
  • @JamieK1882 Let for sharing the shop name. I'm going to look them up. I am not a "themed" nursery type gal and most boy bedding is themed. So, we'll probably go custom if it is a boy. We are probably going team green but I want to have everything picked out. Then all I will have to do is pull the trigger after LO is born.
Please share photos and let us know if you are pleased with the quality when you receive the goodies!
