October 2012 Moms

Does/Does Not

How's about another round of what my kid does/doesn't do?

Does:
Babble on and have a full on conversation, including a few words that one can pick out.  (Mama, Daddy, Olaf, Xbox.  we have our priorities in line in this family.)
Insist on putting on her own pullups and shorts.  She isn't good at it, but she gets the idea that her legs go in the holes then you pull them up.
Use a spoon with relative success.  Depending on how hungry she is, there are some days when i barely have to wipe oatmeal off her face.  If she isn't super hungry, she needs a full on bath after breakfast.
Put on her own shoes - sometimes on the right foot!
Feed her stuffed animals, and ask me to give them kisses.  Cutest.thing.ever.

Doesn't:
repeat or identify colors/shapes/numbers at all.  She knows that the diamond shape goes in the diamond hole, but if I ask her where's the diamond, she won't point to it.
Count.  We count together, but she just holds up her fist and says "uh...uh...uh...yay!!!"
Eat veggies.  Ever.  LOL I am working on this, but mostly her veggies are canned black olives (which I don't think count) and anything I can get hidden into a pasta sauce.
Use multi-word phrases.  She babbles, but doesn't use phrases that you can understand.  "here go" and "there now" are about it.

We don't even own a blender to be perfectly honest. LOL we used to but it bit the dust and we never replaced it. What do you put in your smoothies?

    Does:
Put 2-3 words together: Wet diaper.  More milk please.  Bye-bye Daddy.
Eat all kinds of veggies, including kale and chard which surprised me.
Know colors - bring me the green crayon, etc. She can also say (most of) them.

    Does Not:
Use the potty - or even consider sitting on it.  It's currently used for toy storage.
    Count or say the alphabet
Pull pants up/down or help get dressed in any way

@mbm1983 we had a Magic Bullet a few years ago. We quit using it when my husband found a quarter sized shard of plastic in his drink from the side of the blender attachment. We called and they said "Oh wow, sorry about that! Here, let me send you a free cookbook!"

    Does
Say a couple words together sometimes
Say Please and Thank you ("tay-too") in context
    Give hugs and kisses
Use a fork and spoon with some success
Repeat colors, numbers, letters, and actually most words if I tell him the name and ask him to say it
Put on shoes (usually MY shoes or DS1'S shoes, on the wrong feet haha)
    Go upstairs alternating feet
    Follow simple instructions

    Does not
Use potty or have much interest (but I haven't really attempted)
    Know shapes or letters
Identify letters, colors, shapes, and numbers on his own (DS1 could do all of this by 19 months, even the whole alphabet)
Logan Jack- 6.1.10 and Emmett Weston- 9.29.12

    - Recognizes his name visually
    - Knows his colors and shapes

    - Self feeds and uses utensils with decent accuracy as well as eats a wide variety of food

    - Identify tons of body parts

    - Dance a mean hokey-pokey

    Does not:

    - Dress herself

    Know her colors
    Speak long phrases
Repeat words (she has a few times recently)

  • I've been waiting for another one of these threads to see where everyone's LOs are at with things.  DS seems pretty behind in comparison.

    Does:

-Attempts to use a fork (tries to stab and tries to scoop).  Usually reverts back to his hands for efficiency.

-Sometimes drinks out of a regular cup, and now with minimal spillage.

-Helps pull up his pants when asked.

    -Follows simple instructions.

-Builds with blocks (stacking, Mega bloks, and now working on Duplo)

-Does his shape sorter and can sometimes do his puzzles (he knows which pieces go where, just can't always make them fit back in)

    -Gives us kisses.

    Does Not:

-Talk much.  He is babbling more, and we are starting to recognize words so I am hopeful.

    -Know his colors (consistently).

-Know the ABCs (though he likes to hear the song).

-Use the toilet.  I haven't even considered trying to potty train him yet.

Alice rocks the potty. Only dirty pullups we deal with now are when she's sick. But she is too busy to worry about telling me when she needs to pee.

She isn't very good with a fork still. She CAN use it. She has the skills to do it. I've seen it. But she prefers her hands.

Uses forks and spoons. But often prefers her fingers.

    Does not -
    Do stairs.

    Use potty.

    Have hardly any hair.
  • Yikes, it seems like DS is behind in the vocabulary department?? I cant believe some of yours are doing ABCS! What are your tips for that?

    DOES:

Says basic words, he catches onto simple words very easily
    self-feed with utensils
puts his clothes and shoes away and helps put laundry away, puts his toys away- maybe he gets this OCD of cleaning up after me :)
Actually walks my moms dog with a leash ( she has a small dog)
Follows movements for songs- head shoulders knees & toes, if your happy and you know, etc and pretty much any song on Sprout
    Assists with dressing himself

    DOES NOT:
    Put words into phrases
    Use the potty
    Say ABCS

    no 2-word phrase
    no interest in potty
