More permanent solution than a PnP?

We need a place for M to sleep at the lack and a PnP is not going to cut it. He slept in one at our friend's house a couple of weeks ago and after sleeping through the night for two weeks, he got up once a night and now is back to doing it at home too. So now that we have our own place, what should I do? He'll be sharing a room L as long as it's just us, if we have friends up, he'll probably be in our room. So...I was thinking maybe a mini crib that we could move from room to room? Or a cheap Ikea crib? Any other ideas?

BTW, for those of you planning your visit, be prepared for the vibe to be life-size cedar closet meets early 21st century Ikea.

Re: More permanent solution than a PnP?

  • If changing how he sleeps at home seems to be interrupting his sleep patterns I would try to replicate how he sleeps at home while at the lake house.  You can get such a cheap crib at Ikea I would probably just go with that route.  I wouldn't try different things and risk having rough nights and him struggling to get back into a routine.
A mini crib is an idea, but how long until he out grows that?

  • Speaking for my experience here, DD had changes in sleep when we changed what she was sleeping on. We got a cheap crib with the same mattress and she transitioned perfectly, whereas before she would wake up in the pack n play. Just a thought, you could get a cheap crib with a nice mattress.

Or you could try bedsharing or getting a trundle bed with those mesh side things so kids don't roll out.

  • Ikea crib makes the most sense, if he sleeps in a crib at home. You can easily carry it from room to room if you need to move it.

  • Ikea crib for sure. DD has the $70 one and it's working out great

  • We have the cheapest Ikea crib and it's great. Plus all the Ikea cribs convert to toddler beds if/when your kid is ready for that.
