Question for 2nd+ time moms

Ladies - My DD is a bit over 2 weeks old, and DS is 5 and goes to pre-school, and I used to always pick him up.

Now that DD is here, and we are lucky enough to have our parents live close by, and I've asked my dad to pick DS up from pre-school a few times a week, because I have no idea when she'll wake up and want to nurse (her schedule isn't set yet). I'm a bit worried that DS is going to be bummed that I won't be coming to pick him up for a while any more :(

How have you dealt with this challenge of schedules? TIA!

  • I'm going to base responding on my own 5 year old and guess he'll be fine, excited even, to have grandpa pick him up. You could even play it up for him and get him excited about it.

  • I agree that your 5 year old probably won't mind - mine wouldn't!  But on the schedule question…I just don't have them.  We just roll with whatever the day has in store.  My kids mostly nap on me when they are little anyway (so doesn't matter where we are) and with breastfeeding, I'm ready to feed anywhere, anytime so it again doesn't matter where we are.

I'm actually pretty type A and realized with my 1st that trying to deal with a schedule would very quickly make me insane!
  • I have an 8-yr-old who needs to be picked up from school every day. The first week I was home my dad picked him up for me but them I was anxious to get into a routine and did not want the older child to feel I had ditched him for the baby. So I try to feed her about a half hour before I leave to pick him up then I pop her In the car seat and off we go. So sometimes that means I am waking her up from a nap a little early but so far (we are in wk 8) it is working out ok. Most of the time the baby just naps in the car.
