  We aren't to that stage yet, but I agree with pp. A dollar sounds good to me.

  We just had this discussion on my BMB, I think that the consensus was that a cool coin or bill was the way to go. DH and I talked about it and decided we will do a $2 bill for the first tooth and then dollar or half dollar coins for the rest.

  
  

  Some people suggested that it should depend on the tooth's condition, so a tooth with a cavity would get less.

  We did more for the first, because.. it was the first. Just something I wanted to do.  So we did $5 for #1 and we do $1 for every other after.

  That is just plain weird. We haven't gotten to that point with our kids but I think a dollar will be fine.

  I think that they were saying that it could be a good way to encourage good oral hygiene, I'll be honest and admit I didn't read carefully since we are currently so many years away from loose teeth.

  I think a dollar or two is about right.  I also think a cool coin is the way to go.  We used to get half dollars.

  
  

  When I was teaching, I had a couple kids come in with $20 for a tooth. They were poor families, living below the poverty line, and giving $20 per tooth.  It blew my mind. They were the same families that also paid big bucks for grades.  The vast majority of students received $0.25-$2 and they were just as happy.

  I think a dollar is good. A remember as a kid we'd get a pack of sugarless gum too, I thought that was pretty cool.

  My parents always did one half-dollar coin per tooth. We had little pillows with a tooth appliqué on one side and a little pocket on the other side and we put them under our pillows.

  Sometimes the tooth fairy doesn't make it the exact night the tooth is lost if we don't have any cash on us.  I can't tell you what number lost tooth we're on-DD#1 only has one baby tooth left so we've have lots of tooth fairy visits.
