Has anyone tried (or know someone who has) to breast feed after reduction? Were you successful? Just curious. I had a reduction April 2013 and want to bf this baby if possible. My surgeon says I should be able to. Thanks!
I didn't have a reduction but did have implants (which...I know, totally different), but I lost all feeling in one of my nipples so I was terrified I wouldn't be able to breastfeed. Luckily, I was able to nurse successfully until my daughter weaned herself at 10 months. Good luck!
my sister had a reduction and was unable to breastfeed. Now, that being said, she did not have a very good support system for breast feeding. Her MW wasn't the greatest, and her husband was just freaked out that their LO was starving. So that could have possibly affected things, but she'll never really know. I know it can depend how they did the reduction, where they made the incisions. I think it is very possible to breastfeed after. I would make sure to find some great resources and build a good support system. That is something every mom wanting to breastfeed should do though regardless.
Lurking from dec 13... I had a reduction and I was able to pump for seven weeks. I have other friends who were able to much longer but I was happy to get anything. Good luck!
