Yay for personal information!
I'm pretty sure I'm depressed but haven't been diagnosed. My insurance doesn't require any sort of referral and there are a million in my network. I tried looking up reviews on the ones closest to me but none have reviews. I don't know anyone who goes to one. Do I have to write down their names and put the in a circle and spin a bottle to choose one? Eenie meanie miney moe that shit? How did you find yours?
Halp, I need your experience and anecdotes 'n junk.
Re: Srs bsnss y'all: How did you find your psychologist?

You don't understand the appeal of Benedict Cumberbatch / think he's fug / don't know who he is? WATCH SHERLOCK. Until you do, your negative opinion of him will not be taken seriously.

I honeslty found mine because I am a quasi-psychologist and I had worked with him in the past as a collegue and liked his style. I had tried one other before him, and it was NOT a good fit. I think if you don't have any friends to give you a referral, decide if you would rather have a man or woman, kind of take a shot in the dark and pick one, and keep in mind that if after a couple sessions you do not see the relationship as beneficial is is perfectly ok to switch to someone else.
Also take into consideration what you want in a therapist. I always want someone who is going to be straight with me, not too touchy-feely, and give me strategies. So I look for words like "behaviorist" or "cognitive behavioral therapy". If you are looking for more emotional stuff, maybe look for "person centered". And "psychoanalysis" means Freudian, lets talk about your childhood.
Hope this helps, good luck!
Best of luck to you OP.
I hope you can find one. I know insurance stuff sucks sometimes.
