s/o potties--boring or fun?

I was thinking of getting an Elmo potty b/c M loves all things Elmo. However, some reviews say their kid just faux flushes all day, which makes Elmo sing. I haven't seen any toilets that make noise when you go, but I have heard of such things, and perhaps that is useful. Reviews on Amazon like an $8 one that is pretty plain, but perhaps that is what you want. What do you think?

I was going to wait until 2, but now that it is summer and M is not wearing as many layers, she takes off her diaper whenever it is wet. If she's wet and wearing pants, she tries to wipe off with a blanket. She has always been a very obvious pooper. I am not expecting anything--I gave her the option of brushing her teeth by herself and she had a huge meltdown--but I am kind of bored and having a pantsless baby running around all the time just seems like an opportunity.

I do not really want a potty either, but M is so short it would take a giant ladder to get her on the potty. She can climb on the couch, but she has to put her face on the cushion and give it all her effort and that is with a step. She might be 5 before she can climb on the toilet...

I have a ring seat and a little potty. Both have been useful during different stages and with different children. I had one son who was deathly afraid of the big toilet/ring seat for a long time, so the only way I could get him to sit and relax to poop was with the little potty. Also, the ring seats with little boys before they know to push their penis down are a disaster. Their pee can end up coming through the hole between the ring seat and toilet seat or the toilet seat and the bowl and then drip down the side of the toilet. Such a mess.

As far as noisy potties go, I never wanted one. I feel like I need to differentiate between play time and potty time, and I don't want them to think it's a game.

We also have both. We are introducing potty training now and I am using our potty chair. It's perfect size for t to sit in her own. When she used the potty seat on the big toilet at grandmas she climbed up putting her hands all over the toilet and the seat giving me a bit of an ick factor. She is going in the potty a couple times a day now and for us the little chair gives her more independence. Our sings but we have yet to out batteries in it. We do enough cheering for her to get excited

In also on team I hate the potty chair! Yes they are the perfect size for a kid. They are also the perfect size for your little helper to pick up.

I'm just going to get one of those rubbermaid gallon buckets people use to mop or wash cars with. Then I'll buy stickers and let him decorate it. Then I'll pin my genius on the interwebs.

Okay, thank you. I started a thread specifically about this two weeks or so ago and everyone was all NOPE NOT POTTY TRAINING NOW. I have no desire or intention to do this anytime soon. I found DS scooping water out of the toilet with a cup yesterday. Pretty sure he's not trying to shit there yet.

The closest I get to thinking about pt is the middle of the night panic that it has to happen at some point. Maybe he'll just figure it our by the time he's 8.

Oh, and after talking a bit with DH about it his answer was to say, "what do we need a potty chair for? We got trees and he's a boy!"

This. I answered for DS1 who was only fully potty trained like 6 months ago. so. yeah. Not even thinking about it for DS2 for a long time.

I LIKE diapers because we can be anywhere any amount of time--we go to a lot of parks that do not have bathrooms or have bathrooms that I would not like to use. We are having a baby in September, so I was totally set to wait for our adjustments to that before starting. But I just feel like she's sending me a message that she wants to start. If I'm wrong, we'll wait. But if she takes right to it, at least we have accomplished something this summer.

DD1 went 2 months in underwear last summer. Then we flew to the US and all the work was destroyed. She's been in diapers since. She pretty much always poops on her potty (thank goodness) but rarely pees unless I tell her we aren't going to *insert fun place* until she does. Really I just need to take off the diapers. She'll be fine. But I'm lazy and love diapers. There are almost no public restrooms here. How in the heck am I supposed to do anything with a 3-year-old who needs to pee RIGHTNOW when the nearest restroom is either a 15 minute walk or a 5 minute car ride (plus dropping the groceries, going to the car, buckling everyone in, driving home, unbuckling, going in, and getting to the potty) away??

This was me too. No tiny potty here. Except now with him constantly peeing in his room I'm thinking he needs a potty in there....

Vero - we ended up putting a little potty in DS1's room (with a LARGE towel underneath because his aim is not too good) that really helped. I think he actually preferred using it after a while because it was "his" and made him feel independent. He always used it in the morning and during naptime. Good luck!

Oh, and re: little potty, we had great success with a duck potty for DD1 (she loved ducks) that is supposed to play music but I never put in batteries. I love that it has a flip-down top and the potty party can be easily taken out and dumped. DD1 just goes over and uses it when she has to poop, and the flip-down lid was nice for when DD2 was too little to figure that out on her own. Otherwise it was her main goal in life to get her hands and/or face in the potty.

We also recently got a cheap plastic potty for upstairs, and I've got mixed feelings on it so far. The main problem is that it is very light and easy to pick up. For DD1, that is. This morning DH told me she came to him with a big wet streak down the front of her shirt. She had peed in the potty and then wanted to dump it in the big potty by herself... yeah, that didn't go well. So I'm not sold on this little potty yet. I do like our other one compared to the potty rings for the real toilet, though, because it's way easier for DD1 to use.

And I hope nobody who is currently PTing takes offense at me saying that. I don't intend it to be a slam on those who PT early--if you want to do it, go for it! It's not my cuppa cawfee though.

Check out the discussion on what babies from Dec 2012 are doing. Letters, colors, pting... I seriously thought that M liking letters so much was an indicator of a possibly future special needs diagnosis...hyperlexia...but apparently this is all the rage in babies just slightly older.
