Weird bumps all over DS-any ideas what it might be?

DS has developed small little bumps all over his arms, stomach and face.  They're really tiny raised bumps.  They're not red and they don't seem to itch.  I tried to take a picture of them but they're really hard to see in a picture.  We've had HFM and 5th disease and I know it's not either one of them.  There are a ton of them.  Could this be excema?  It hasn't been terribly hot here yet so I don't think it would be heat rash.

I'm kind of at a loss as to what they could be.   They don't seem to bother him and he's been acting normal with no fever so I don't really think he needs to go to the Dr unless they get worse.

My son had a rash that was similar to what you are describing. One doctor told us it was fifths disease. Then 3 weeks later I was told by another doctor it was scarlet fever. Scarlet fever starts from strep most times. So look for inflammation of the throat and/or a red strawberry looking tongue.

    Good luck

  • Our 3 older sons had something similar to this and our 8 yo also had a stomach ache. It ended up being strep throat. Once put on antibiotics, after a couple of days, their hands started peeling. All it took to find out was a strep test at Dr. GL!

DS1 gets a rash like that from his allergies--when the pollen is bad, or when he eats dairy.
It could also be viral, for sure.

Eczema is usually in patches, not tiny bumps.  That has been our experience with it, anyway.
WSS.  Lo's eczema is always in patches.

  • It just dawned on me it's probably the sunscreen we're using.  It's new and a Nutragena product.  I occasionally get similar bumps from Nutragena.

It makes total sense to me now.  He doesn't have any bumps on his legs since we use a spray vs. the stick I use on his arms/face.  Hopefully switching does the trick.

Thanks for all the suggestions.  I had no idea some of those things caused rashes.  Skin conditions are the hardest to self diagnose!

I had the same reaction to neutrogena and DS reacted to California baby, both after we'd used them a while.
