Changing table - what do you keep close at hand?

Hi ladies,

We just bought baskets for our changing table. I'm just wondering what you are storing in yours besides the obvious diapers/ wipes/ diaper rash cream.

Thanks!

Re: Changing table - what do you keep close at hand?

  • Diapers, wipes, washcloths for baby boy diaper changes, powder and rash cream, saline spray, snot sucker, rubbing alcohol and large baby Q-tips for umbilical cord care/cleaning.

I like to keep hand sanitzer for myself. I also keep febreeze or any deodorizer, because it can get smelly:) Lotion because I also dressed LO there after bathes and such. Vaseline if circumcision is invovled.

I second the hand sanitizer! I plan to get another bottle to go on baby girl's changing table. Both of our changing tables are on top of dressers, which means that all their clothes and accessories are nearby. That has been a real help. I also have a small bookshelf thing to the side of each dresser which contains our diapers, wipes, sanitizer, diaper cream, bows (for baby girl's room only), lotion, comb/brush, baby cotton swabs, and a tub with all the medical paraphanelia (snot sucker, thermometer, a few medicines and creams, etc).

  • I second all of these. I also put a few small toys in one of the baskets to entertain DD when she got to the stage of wanting to stick her hands in what I was changing.

a few extra paci's within reach as well this helped alot with fussy baby while being changed or getting dressed.

  • I didn't see finger nail clippers mentioned and we keep those there in addition to diapers, wipes, diaper cream, burp cloth, vaseline, lotion.

  • Yes to everything they said!

If I was the first poster I would have said: lotion, thermometers, wipes, plenty of diapers, onesies and we kept our bath stuff on the changing table because we lack space in this house.

  • I kept a few small wash rags on hand bc they worked a lot better than the cutesy pee pee tee pees. Plus there is sometimes surprise spit up and such.

Also i pick out clothes the night before and have that within reaching distance, but im kind of nuts and pick out my own clothes ahead of time as well as for ds. When you're so tired saving yourself that little step in the morning can be nice.

I kept the thermometer and baby Tylenol,... Together too but thankfully didn't need it before ds was up and crawling around and into things so we had to move it.

Ditto on the toys! Great to have a few things of interest for those little fingers so they don't wander into poop. :-)
Alex has arrived! 9 pounds, 21 inches - 3 weeks early on March 2nd ~went natural - very intense. whew!~
  • Ours is on top of her drawers so all her clothes are in the lower drawers, changing essentials (diapers, wipes, powder, cream etc) in the top drawer along with hand sanitiser, baby first aid kit(thermometer, nail scissors, snot sux etc), baby grooming kit (brush, hair clips, hair ties), there's a toy on hand and spit-up cloths in the top drawer too so they're within reach for sudden outbursts.
Also got a couple of washcloths in there because they're multipurpose and you never know when you'll need one for mopping up pee or catching vomit or a whole load of other reasons.
  • Going off of this post- what kind of basket/storage container do you use to hold the essentials? The changing table is part of the dresser and there is an area for a type of basket or holder but I'm not sure what we want to get. I saw a cute one at target but just curious if you've found one you love somewhere else? :)

I have this really crummy disorganized basket right now but I'm totally eyeing one of the organizers from target or babies r us and will probably be getting one the next time I go.

I actually searched forever! Ended up getting these white/ ivory ones from ikea. I was looking for a specific color. Never realized it would be so difficult to find
