C-Section Momma's???

I've got some questions.

1. How long did you wait to drive??? I'm feeling lost not having any independence in doing anything. My dr. said 2-3 weeks......I'll go nuts.

2. When did you steri-strips start to fall off?

3. When could you lay down and sleep?

4. When could you raise your legs again? (like to get in and out of bed)

I feel like I'm doing pretty good but these are my main annoyances right now.....been walking, went grocery shopping with my MIL yesterday, and went to a bday party today (not for long, as DD started with a serious ear infection and we had to go get her medicine before it got worse). Tomorrow my sister is driving me to my school so I can finish out the year and start again next year.......

  • 1. How long did you wait to drive? 2 weeks

    2. When did you steri-strips start to fall off? Never, doctor pulled them off at 2 weeks

    3. When could you lay down and sleep? Um, not sure what you mean here.....after the hospital....as in 5 days?

    4. When could you raise your legs again? (like to get in and out of bed): I got in and out of bed no problem, after returning home from c-section deliveries for both babies.

  • 1. How long did you wait to drive?-  Just under 2 weeks.  DD had a Dr. appointment, and I was feeling fine to drive.

    2. When did you steri-strips start to fall off?- 2 fell off 1 week pp.  The rest are just starting to come off.

    3. When could you lay down and sleep?- I've been sleeping with a pillow under my knees to keep pressure off my back.  I just started sleeping on my sides 4 days ago without it hurting too much.

    4. When could you raise your legs again?- when I got home (3 days pp).

Maybe a week? My doctor said I could drive as long as I wasn't taking painkillers. I was off the painkillers within a week.

    2. When did you steri-strips start to fall off?

    I didn't have them.

    3. When could you lay down and sleep?

What do you mean? I slept laying down in a hospital bed the night of my c section.

    4. When could you raise your legs again? (like to get in and out of bed)

I got in and out of bed beginning on day 2.

  • 1. How long did you wait to drive? 2ish weeks

    2. When did you steri-strips start to fall off? They started to unpeal around 1 week PP, with only one actually falling off. Never pulled them off myself - OB did that at my incision check.

    3. When could you lay down and sleep? I'm confused by this question. I'm typically a side sleeper but am still sleeping on my back. Not because of my incision but because my tits are super uncomfortable.

    4. When could you raise your legs again? (like to get in and out of bed): I was getting out of bed on my own ASAP after surgery - got easier every time.

  • I've got some questions.

    1. How long did you wait to drive???

As soon as I was off the narcotics, pretty much when I got out of the hospital.  My doc didn't say anything about 2 weeks.

    2. When did you steri-strips start to fall off?

I pulled them off myself after a week, incision was closed, and they were itchy.

    3. When could you lay down and sleep?

Not sure what this means, I was sleeping in the hospital whenever LO let me...

    4. When could you raise your legs again? (like to get in and out of bed)

I was pretty much mobile by the time I got out of the hospital.

    1. Was told 4 weeks so I haven't yet...it'll be 4 weeks on Thursday

    2. Never had steri strips just have dissolving stitches

    3. I've been laying on my back to sleep since I've had the section...I can lay on my side a bit but it hurts and pulls so I don't sleep that way just yet

    4. Hmm maybe after a week or so? I mean I could raise them but it definitely hurt! I think it really just got better in the past few days.

  • Thanks. I haven't noticed anything about my steristrips yet. But my legs do hurt a lot more at night when lifting to go to bed and then all nift long to get his bottles. Jut wanted to make sure I wasn't along and doing too much. Last night I layed on my side and my public bone hurt so bad and still does today. I use my arms and dh as a crutch. Hoping I can get in and out if bed soon....normally.

  • I drove as soon as I was off the hydrocodone. 9 days, I think.

I could lie down to sleep the night I got home from the hospital, which was day 3. I could get in and out of bed then just fine too. I never stopped being able to raise my legs or sit up unassisted.

My strips came off in the shower after 5 days.

This was my second c-section and it was scheduled this time. My recovery has been awesome.

  • 1. How long did you wait to drive???
I started driving around 2 weeks, 5 days, but I was told to wait at least a week, and be off painkillers, I was off everything but tylenol by a week and a half.

    2. When did you steri-strips start to fall off?
They started peeling a lot earlier but I peeked them off at 2 weeks pp, which I was told I could do if they weren't off by then.

    3. When could you lay down and sleep?
I have been laying down to sleep since I was home? I did keep a bit of an incline while I was in the hospital. Sometimes I still sleep with a pillow between my legs though.

    4. When could you raise your legs again? (like to get in and out of bed)
Was doing pretty good after the first week. I still use DH sometimes as a crutch getting up and and down because I find using my ab muscles a little hard still.
  • 1. How long did you wait to drive? Told 2 weeks even not on painkillers.

    2. When did you steri-strips start to fall off?Around 1wk pp, peeled the others off around 1.5wk pp due to itching.

    3. When could you lay down and sleep?  4-5 days PP, once I got home

    4. When could you raise your legs again? (like to get in and out of bed): I was able to do this in the hospital, maybe 2-3 days PP. Getting into bed at home was always harder than getting out because my bed is so high I had to "climb" into it.

  • 1. 2 weeks. 2. The doctor peeled them off forme at my incision check. 3. About 5 days in I still sleep hugging a big pillow though 4. About a week, took almost three to be able to do it pain free though
  • Had my 3rd C 2 weeks ago today... The one thing my hospital was very clear on this time was to take the steri-strips off 7 days after they were put on. The longer they stay on, they can cause infection. It hurt like a B to take off, but I did it. Last time I let them stay on forever, oops.
  • 1.) 1 week. That was what my dr said.

2.) 3ish weeks they started pealing and instead of trimming them I got tired of them and took them off.

3.) just a few days after. I was discharged 3 days later and laid down flat that night.

4.) Sometime during week 2 I could get in and out decent. It wasn't until 3-3.5 weeks that I was back to 100% and even sneezing didn't hurt.

    1. How long did you wait to drive?
    I had my c-section 10 days ago
I go to my OB this Friday
I'm hoping to be cleared then
    They told me 2-3 weeks

    2. When did you steri-strips start to fall off?
I actually have some sort of glue on the incision! No steristrips or sutures on the outside!

    3. When could you lay down and sleep?
I haven't had too much of a problem
It's uncomfortable to lay on my side or stomach at times but I think that is because I'm trying to not take as much Motrin and I've stopped taking dilaudid
    It's just a little sore

    4. When could you raise your legs again? (like to get in and out of bed)
Did not have a problem with this- just had to take my time . Initially I would push off of my side with my arm to get out of bed but I have no problems now

Does anyone have any numbness around their incision site? I do and am going to ask the md about this.
  • 1. How long did you wait to drive???

I waited about 10 days but I wasn't taking the pain meds.

    2. When did you steri-strips start to fall off?

I took them off myself at 10 days.

    3. When could you lay down and sleep?

This one took a long time. I was badly anemic & felt heart palpitations when I laid flat. I think it was about 3.5 weeks before I felt comfortable laying flat.

    4. When could you raise your legs again? (like to get in and out of bed)

About 2 weeks out is when I could almost maneuver like usual to get out of the bed.

RE numbness, that is completely normal. All of those nerves are still upset.
  • 1. How long did you wait to drive???
My doctor advised I could drive when I wasn't in pain. I did not take any pain meds though so I'm assuming if your pain meds don't drive yet. I waited a about 10 days.

    2. When did you steri-strips start to fall off?
Doc advised remove them in a week. I did that and all was fine.

    3. When could you lay down and sleep?
Sleeping was interesting at first bc I had some moderate pain rolling side to side but if I went slow I was ok.

    4. When could you raise your legs again? (like to get in and out of bed)
In and out if bed pain subsided after about a week.

My biggest bit of advice Woukd be move as much as possible. It really does help in recovery
  • 1. How long did you wait to drive?

6 days pp, just had to be off narcs.

    2. When did you steri-strips start to fall off?

Only one fell off about a week pp, I pulled off the rest at 2 weeks pp.

    3. When could you lay down and sleep?

Right away. Laying down was easy, it's the getting up that was hard.

    4. When could you raise your legs again? (like to get in and out of bed)

The night if my c-section, although it took about a week to be able to do so without pain.
