High-Risk Pregnancy

Anyone on Heparin?

Hey ladies,

So, I'm 36 weeks now (yay!), and have been switched from Lovenox to Heparin, in prep for the upcoming delivery. My dose is 5,000 Units twice daily. The actual ml volume comes up to be 1ml, which seems like a lot to me to for a SubQ injection. When I was on the Lovenox it was only like 0.3ml. What is your dose/volume that you inject? The two times/day part really sucks, too, btw!!!

Re: Anyone on Heparin?

  • Hi! I was on 60mg of lovenox 2x/day and when I was switched to Heparin I switched to 8,000 units 3x/day. It sucked! Plus, my blood was still too thin to get an epi!!!! It wasn't worth the 3 shots a day. bleh.

  • They're gonna switch me around 35 weeks from Lovenox to Heparin. I currently take 40mg of Lovenox twice a day.....gotta love those shots to the tummy! Lol! I was curious how much heparin do they give you? Or does it differ per person, dose of lovenox, how long you've been on it, etc? I developed a blood clot in my left leg 2 years ago when I was pregnant with my son. It went away after being on Lovenox from 3 days after he was born and continued for 4 months after. Well here it is June 2014.....2 years later and I've been on it again since February 2014....no clots that we know of. OB just wants to be safe and prevent another one from forming with this pregnancy. I'm 29 weeks and considered high risk because of it. So I'm having another csection at 39 weeks in August. So I am also wondering why do they have to switch you to Heparin? Is it because of bleeding? I've heard from someone that lovenox can keep an epidural/spinal from working? So I'm just confused! Help!
