If you came home on a monitor...

Can you tell me how your experience with it was? We are tentatively bringing DD home on one Sunday. She is having like 1 Brady a day likely due to reflux. So, it's nothing major but they want her on the monitor for a bit.

We did our training today and it's so loud!! If you have other kids, did they do ok with it? Anything else you can tell me?

We came home on one. She wore it 24/7 except for baths. We found that the belt it comes with is a million times easier to use than the sticky pads, and has a lot fewer false alarms. It's a pain because you only have like a 6 foot radius from where you plug it in to move around, so we would basically stay in one room all day. You can unplug it and have it run on the battery for short periods of time, too. I did wear her occasionally in an Ergo and wore the  monitor like a purse.
As much as it's a pain, I found it to be really helpful in curbing our anxiety since she was still being "watched". We followed up with a pulmonologist who interpreted the data, and he took her off of the monitor after about 6 weeks.

  • Woohoo for going home! DS was on one for 11 months. The biggest issue we encountered was him pulling off the sensors when he got a little.bigger. but they gave us really specific questions on how to use it and it wasn't too bad! It was nice to be able to see his HR and sats when I wanted.

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • It is loud, I agree. We actually (tsk tsk) muffled ours during the day by putting something over the speaker. You could still hear it, but it didn't necessarily rattle you to your core like it did without it. ;)

We always struggled a bit with the pulse-ox maintaining a good reading via the foot sensor, but once we got it - it was generally no issue. Having a baby attached to things certainly adds a level of complexity, but nothing you can't handle!

    Congrats on heading home soon!
