Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Gift ideas

Hi All! Need some ideas please! So my sister-in-law is due June 24th and unfortunately by brother hasn't been home since mid-April (he's in the military and has been away for training) and isn't scheduled to get back until the day after her due date. He would like to get her something nice and asked me for ideas on a gift when the baby comes... he doesn't want to get her jewelry but would like to spend some $ on her (didn't give me a specific dollar amount) - any thoughts? I've read that a lot of women like the more expensive diaper bags, I don't think she'd be really into that. Maybe a jogging stroller? New bike with carrier (for when LO is older)? Just need a little help, thanks so much in advance!!

It's hard to know without knowing your sister in law.  It seems like something that would help her out when he is gone would be most useful.

How about paying for a cleaning lady for the next couple of weeks?  DS's due date was not long after my birthday, and I asked for a cleaning lady to come clean my house as a birthday gift, and it was awesome.

Or, a spa gift package?  She won't use it immediately, but by the time the baby is a few months old, she'll probably want a chance to pamper herself.

  • I got a pedicure two days before I delivered and I was soooooo glad. First of all it felt wonderful to sit and have someone else massage my feet and legs, and my toes looked great when the baby came. (Not that I knew he was coming in two days, but it worked out well!)

  • I think a cleaning lady or service is a great idea like pp said. Since her hubby has been gone and the baby will be due close to his arrival home, I would get something that will help take the stress off of her and let them have the extra time together. Not sure where you live but some grocery stores do online delivery, so that could also be an idea. I would also make up a "mommy basket." Face masks, bubble bath, lotion, magazine or two, new cd, whatever she likes. It's hard to get out of the house with a newborn, so this would give her some "me" time without having to leave the new baby.
  • Such great ideas, thank you all so much!!!

  • I think anything meal related is the most helpful because no one is in the mood or has time to cook with a new baby.  Maybe a gift card for Pea Pod (stop & shop grocery delivery) Dream Dinners or something similar where you go and put meals together.
