Water when brushing teeth

After almost 7 years together, I just noticed DH brushes his teeth with cold water. I've always brushed mine with really warm water. When I said something to him, he seemed surprised that I I didn't use cold. Lol maybe it's because I have sensitive teeth but it got me wondering, what do you brush your teeth with?

Re: Water when brushing teeth

  • My whole life I always used cold, but I have a couple of teeth that are getting sensitive, so now I use warm (if the tap has enough time to warm up, otherwise it's still cold-ish).

  • Like to rinse your mouth? I don't rinse with water. I brush, spit, then rinse with mouthwash. Or do you mean to wet the toothbrush? I just turn on whichever knob is on the left side, I don't even know which one that is when I'm not looking! And just stick the brush under for a second.

  • I use barely warm.  I can't use ice cold, but I don't like it WARM warm. So I turn just a touch of the hot on.... so it's not freezing.

    DD and H use cold.

  • cold water hurts my teeth- so warm.
  • @Mrs.Greg yes to wet your toothbrush. Left is hot water lol
  • cold from the tap, but I favorite favorite thing is to brush my teeth while in the shower in the hot water. I think I also love this because I can brush as messy as I want.

  • Who has time to wait for the water to warm up just to brush their teeth? I mean, I turn the faucet on, stick my brush under for .5 seconds, and turn the water on. Totally not worth wasting water to get warm and especially not for hot just for that. (Now, if you were also going to use warm/hot water for something else, that might be a different story.) But then it'd be hot when I rinse. Eww.

I put so little water on that I don't even notice it's cold.

Also, DH does not wet the toothbrush.

  • I grew up using cold but switched to warm when my teeth became sensitive.

  • Is it only me or does my water only take like 3 or 4 seconds to get super hot?? Lol
  • Just a side note, I always hate movies that show someone brushing their teeth and then kiss their spouse with a mouthful of spotty toothpaste. It makes me gag. I rinse out my mouth an insane amount, it's a hang up of mine. If I pause while brushing, I have to rinse out my toothbrush and my mouth and start again with cold water. I have issues lol!

See i use the cold water while I wait for the water to warm up for brushing my teeth.  So I turn the tap to hot, then use the cold water to brush/rinse.  By the time I'm done, the water is warm and I can wash my face.
This is exactly what I do, too - by the time the water has warmed up, I'm finishing brushing my teeth, and the water is warm for washing my face.

The movie thing grosses me out too! I also rinse an insane amount, and can't pause/talk/etc. until I'm done and have it all rinsed out. If DH talks to me while he's brushing his teeth I also get a little twitchy feeling.

This. I don't leave it running and I just want water, I don't care the temp although hot sounds gross....
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • I've used warm water on accident a couple of times and it just seemed gross having a mouth full of warm watery toothpaste.  Cold all the way!
