AW: Done with this pregnancy

I'm 37 weeks pregnant. My due date is not until June 28th, but I'm officially done. This pregnancy has been so much more draining physically. I can barely walk at this point, let alone keep up with DS. I'm pretty much ready to beg my doctor to get this LO out at my next appt on Tuesday. I do feel extremely guilty because the last time around I had zero interest in trying to make things happen before it was time.

Has anyone ever had their membranes stripped? Did it work?

I'm sorry you are feeling so crappy! I'd encourage you to keep that baby cooking for as close to 40 weeks as you can, though! My DD was born at 36 +6 weeks and had breathing problems, which resulted in a 4 day NICU stay. I know it could have been worse, but it was still traumatic. She had trouble with breastfeeding until close to her actual due date (which I hear is common for near term babies), so that's something to consider if you plan to BF.

I went in the day before my due date and asked for my membranes swept. The doctor checked me and with potty in her eyes she said, 'oh honey you need to be able to get a fingertip in there to do so and you aren't even dilated that far.' I cried. ;-)

I don't know if it makes a difference that I'm already 4 cm dilated. I've been losing my mucus plug as well. It's been very similar to what happened with DS. I ended up getting induced with him because I was leaking amniotic fluid though. I'm just ready to be able to feel like a good mommy to DS1 again.

@Brendamndz I did great until the third trimester. In fact I almost missed the first trimester completely! Some of it has been pregnancy related, some of it has just been unfortunate timing because I'm pregnant.

@Myaflowers DS1 ended up in the NICU due to infection. I'd love to avoid that again if possible. It wasn't fun.

@ema10, I wasn't dilated at all the day of my c-section, so I'm not sure. 4 cm sounds pretty good, though! Sorry about DS1's NICU stay. DD also had infection. I hope you avoid all that with this LO!

@Brendamndz, full term is now considered to be 39 weeks.

I hate to be a negative nelly, but that feeling of not being a good mom to ds 1 isn't going away after the baby is born, in fact it might get worse. Newborns take up a lot of your time and attention. But don't beat yourself up about it, your DS won't remember and he won't feel neglected, you're giving him the best gift ever, a sibling!

My membranes were stripped at 41 weeks and DS was born at 41+5. Stripped on a Thursday, born on a Tuesday.

Hang in there! I had my membranes swept twice, and still had to be induced at 40w (dd had cord around her neck and wasn't practicing her breathing as she was supposed to). Hope the time flies by for you!!

When I had mine stripped, the doctor was sure my water would break on the table but it didn't. Then he said that I wouldn't make it through the night, I did. Then he told me I wouldn't last the weekend, I did. I was finally induced a week later. Baby just didn't want to come out!

@Wild_flower25 I was already preparing for the mom guilt after baby 2, just not before! I know it's going to be a rough transition for DS. He doesn't like to share his mama with other babies. I wish I could help him understand and prepare, but he's just too young to understand.
