2nd Trimester

decreased fetal movements

i'm 21 weeks pregnant and i haven't felt my baby move since yesterday... is this something i should be worried about?

Re: decreased fetal movements

  • movements are not consistant that early. i believe they say 26ish weeks it is more consistent. which is about when mine started turning into a little karate kicker!

  • I felt my little girl kick since week 19, she has a pattern and certain times of the day where she kicks . I was small prior to getting pregnant and my ob says that I'd feel her earlier . I had the same problem a few weeks ago and I went to out hospital to ob triage and they did an ultrasound and I heard her heartbeat . They said if you ever feel less fetal movement than you have in the last 24 hours to go the the hospital. (I also live in canada not sure if that matters but that's what I was told to do and did). Most babies are below the belly button so you may not feel consistent movements or your placenta may be positioned in the way too. There are many factors but it that little baby is an avid kicker and you don't feel it id go with your instincts and do what you feel is best

At 21 weeks movement is, by definition, irregular & spontaneous. Also, size of the mother (vs. placenta placement & baby position) has very little to do with when you feel baby.

If OP were 28 weeks then your advice would apply. At 21 weeks? No. Not so much.

  • No I wouldnt worry (though its hard!) The same thing happened to me around 22 weeks.  Some days are much more active than others.  The last 2 days he was moving around like crazy...today Ive only felt him a few times.
