Bedtime for LO

Did your LO set his or her bedtime? My DS is 9 weeks and usually has his last nap ending about 4:30-5. He refuses to nap after the next bottle and pretty much insists on going to bed about 7. I wish it was later because at the point there's 1 5 hour stretch and then up every 3. So 2 middle of night for me unless we wake and feed about 10ish (dreamfeed I guess?). Then he gets to 3 and then up for day about 7. What about your LO?

Re: Bedtime for LO

  • He set his own bedtime for 8ish. We were waking to feed before going to bed, but he wakes up between 4 and 5 either way, so we decided to just put him down at 8.

  • Ours is 9:30-10. She will usually take a cat nap 6:30-7.
  • My DD is 10.5 wks... She falls asleep on me around 8ish. I was doing her last feeding at 10, but have started pushing it back in 15min increments until I set the last feeding at 9pm, so I can get to bed earlier. I have her on a schedule of eating every 4hrs (I FF). Working off the book 12 hours of sleep by 12 weeks...She still does do one "off" feeding, usually wakes anywhere from 4-5:30am, eats then right back asleep for another 2-3 hours then I feed her again by 9am.

Her naps are pretty inconsistent right now, but she sleeps at night like a champ.

Into PJs around 8, usually asleep by 9 at the latest.  He sleeps 4-5 hours, then up every 2-3 after that.  Move him into the bed around 6 so I can squeeze out an extra bit of napping.

  • DS is done by 7:00 pm - he sleeps great in a carrier all day but by 7:00 he's cranky until he's nursed down in bed.

  • We aim for 7:30-8 because any later and he turns into a total fussbucket
  • DD falls asleep around 7:30 after being held/rocked by DH or I. We usually let her nap in the living room with us, and she usually wakes up around 9:30. I'll then bring her upstairs, feed her, and put her in the PNP.
  • She set her own, about 9 or 9:30. DD1 is in bed no later than 9, so I think DD2 knows and waits so we can have those last few minutes of snuggles without a big sissy in her face. She was just sleeping 6 hrs, but the last 2 nights she slept through the night. I think it's a fluke though. She has no predictable naps anymore though.

  • We're trying to stick with the general plan from "The Sleep Lady" which says to keep LO up for around 2 hours before bedtime. So, the goal is getting our boy down two hours after his last nap. This means bedtime is still fluxuating between 8:30 and 10:30. Our general routine takes about an hour and a half, and then however long it takes LO to fall asleep. He's now sleeping 4-6 hour chunks for the first stretch, so our preference is a 9:30 bedtime so DH and I have a little alone time and still can get a good stretch of sleep.

  • My daughter is just over 9 weeks and set her own bedtime at 8:30- 9ish. Even if she's not asleep by 9 I put her in her crib anyway and usually she's content and falls asleep on her own within a few minutes. If she gets up to eat it's typically between 3 and 4 and then up for the day around 6.

He set his own bedtime for 8ish. We were waking to feed before going to bed, but he wakes up between 4 and 5 either way, so we decided to just put him down at 8.

This exactly. She just manages to stay awake after her 5-6 pm bottle. We do bath time at 730 ish and then bottle and snuggles until she's asleep usually around 830. Then wake up time is around 5 if we let her sleep. We have to be up at 4 am to get dh to work on time so I wake her up and feed her then.

She created this schedule over the last 3 weeks. Just sort of naturally fell into a rhythm so we followed her lead. I figure that's much better than trying to force it on her and then both of us end up frustrated.
  • Over the past few weeks he has basically set his own schedule. Bottle around 7, nap until 8, bath, change, swaddle, feed and down for the night between 9-10. He will then sleep for 4-7 1/2 hrs and will wake at 5:30 for a bottle. We can then try again for a few more hours, but that doesn't always work.

  • We bathe all 3 at 6/6:15, but it's a crap shoot whether she'll fall asleep right after she nurses or if she'll drum up some witching hour action. Last night, she finally fell asleep at 9:30, but a couple nights ago, it was 7. She sleeps 7-11 hours for her first chunk of night sleep. Why can't my 3 y/o and 16 m/o do that ?!!!

  • Around 8 is ideal, sometimes it's 8:30. She wakes anywhere between 3 - 5 to eat and then for back to sleep for a few more hours.

  • How old was your LO when a schedule started? She turned 6 weeks on Sat and every day/night is different. When should I expect or try to start a nighttime routine?
  • DD falls asleep around 7:30 after being held/rocked by DH or I. We usually let her nap in the living room with us, and she usually wakes up around 9:30. I'll then bring her upstairs, feed her, and put her in the PNP.
    This.

  • Ugh we're 8 weeks...and trying to implement a bedtime routine, 7pm nurse, bath then play with daddy & mommy, then nurse again at 9pm & hoping for bed. Saturday night she didn't go to sleep until 3 am...we started around 9... Kill. Me. Now
  • I feel pretty lucky. My LO goes to bed t 9 and sleeps through the night until 5 am! She has been doing this since 6 weeks.
  • I nurse one last time around 6:30 or 7, then do a dreamfeed at 10. He's up once or twice to nurse, then up for good by 6:30 or 7.
