Trouble TTC

impatiently waiting.........

Hello, Ladies! I am new here, but have been lurking for awhile. My DH and I have been TTC on and off since 2010. In 2004 I had multiple cysts on both of my ovaries. I had my left ovary and tube removed. In 2010 I was told I had multiple cysts on my right ovary and would need surgery. My DH and I (who was my boyfriend at the time) decided to stop using protection and see what happend before surgery. Now, 4 years later, we are trying harder than ever! We finally started seeing an RE last month. I've found out that my tube is blocked, I have cysts on my ovary, and i have low progesterone. DH had his SA yesterday. I have a follow up ultrasound to see how the cysts are on Friday, then my appointment with the dr to figure out a plan Friday afternoon. This whole process has been so overwhelming. I was hoping to find something wrong, but wasn't expecting to get bad news from every test. I'm also very impatient and can't wait to come up with a plan!! Does anyone have any ideas of what the dr may suggest?!

Re: impatiently waiting.........

  • I'm sorry for your struggles!

I've had ovarian cysts go away over time, rupture painfully (but not dangerously), and also heard that birth control can help resolve them. Hopefully surgery won't be necessary for you.

Low progesterone can be caused by ovarian cysts, but there are probably other possible causes.

Some blocked tubes can be surgically fixed. That could lead to a somewhat higher chance of ectopic pregnancy, but it could make timed intercourse or IUI possible options. Even if your DH's SA comes back normal, your RE still may recommend IUI with controlled ovarian stimulation (Clomid or Femara perhaps) once the cysts and tube are resolved, since that has higher success rates than meds alone or IUI alone..

If the tube can't be cleared, it may be left there or may be removed if your RE thinks it is causes any fluid buildup that could be harmful to an implanting embryo. If either case, it seems IVF would be the recommendation to get sperm to egg.

Good luck with all the testing. I think I know how you feel, since several unexpectedly bad test results showed up during our testing cycle, but I was also glad that each test gave the RE a clearer picture of what was wrong and how to treat it.

  • I don't know much about blocked tubes, but I agree with @BunnyBerry‌, it seems like you probably will be offered either surgery to clear your tube and/or IVF. I know it's so hard to wait for a plan. :-\ Do you have a follow-up appointment scheduled?

I don't any advice, but good luck with everything. It sounds frustrating to get back bad results for every test, but hopefully you will be able to come up with a game plan soon. Waiting is the worst. Fingers crossed for good SA results for your hubby.

    Welcome to the board!

  • So sorry you are having to deal with so much. I have had problems with cysts since I was 15; BC and time helped them decrease and dissolve. Last year, my Dr started me on a round of Clomid b/c I was not ovulating. It caused me to develop multiple cysts and over the course of 3 months they continued to grow. In Nov 2013, I had surgery to remove them and also found that my left tube was blocked. I then seen a RE and went for HSG that showed both of my tubes were blocked. Instead of jumping straight to IVF, my husband and I decided to go forward with surgery to open my tubes. That surgery was our last possible option before IVF; plus it was covered by insurance. My surgery was May 30 and I am  very happy to say that is was successful. Both of my tubes have been successfully opened and I had no signs of endo or adhesions. Doc said everything is now in my DH's ball court (his count is excellent thankfully). I am hoping this finally allows us to move forward b/c we have faced so much over the last year. I definitely hope things turn around for you soon. Hugs and prayers sent your way. Good Luck on your journey. I hope your stay here is short.
  • welcome! I'm sorry that you are having to go through all this. The board is very supportive and you will find lots of good information. I wish you all the best!

Trying to have baby #1 since April 2013

DH SA March,May 2014 - Low motility and shape issues. On vitamins per RE to help

Me testing April 3, 2014 - FSH and LH good, HSG showed blocked right tube

April 29, 2014 - First RE appt., right tube needs to be removed and possibly left also if

it's bad too. RE suggests going straight to IVF

June 4, 2014 - LAP/HSC and unexpected endo. removed but tubes got to stay!

June 13, 2014 - Post-Op appointment. We decide where to go next since main issue

is MFI influenced. Trying naturally until decision... Repeat SA  in September. Aiming for IUI #1 November 2014.
