New and needing ideas on baby's nickname

Hello! I'm new to this group. I am 16 weeks and 4 days. This is my fourth pregnancy with three previous losses. My fiancée and I are convinced that we are having a boy but won't find out until this coming Saturday. His name is Alexander III, and goes by Alex. If we do in fact have a boy then we want to continue the family name. I am unsure as to what to call him though as my brother is also called Alex, lol. Anyone have any ideas on what I can call the baby to prevent any confusion later?

  • Xander (pronounced as Zander).

  • My fiancée has a cat named Xander. We almost called my brother that, lol.

    Andy?

    ETA - Lex?
  • No middle name. The baby's dad or any of the men that have had the name prior have them. That's mainly why I am having such a hard time. My soon to be father-in-law goes by Al.

Well, you aren't leaving yourself with any choices. Good luck :/

ETA - I googled some. It came up with Xan, Alec, Sander, Zane, Axel, Anders and Ali.
  • I know. I like middle names but my fiancée has his heart set on continuing the family name as it is. My family has tried to help me out with this by suggesting two bits, or four or quarter but I don't know. It's easy for Alex II to be Jr or Alex III to be Trey but I'm at a loss.

  • I appreciate that. It may help once I can see the baby's personality. I just wanted to have some ideas beforehand.

  • Leaving out all the obvious nicknames for Alexander, all I can come up with are

    Quad

Ivey (since IV is the roman numeral for 4)

    Ives (as in St. Ives)

  • You could do Zane or Lex

In Russian, Sasha is a nickname for Alexander, so that's another option.  I also like Lex.

  • You could call him by his first and last initial (ex: Alexander Jones = AJ).  I like plenty of these other suggestions too, but all up to you!
  • Quaid is very interesting. I don't think I have ever heard of it used, other than a last name.

  • I love the name Xander, but maybe a nickname will come naturally or maybe you are having a girl.. in that case are you going with Alexandra?

One of my favorite hockey players has the nickname "Darth Quaider".
