Secondary IF

Intro- pretty sure that I belong here but not sure why yet (losses mentioned)

Hello ladies-

I hope you'll bear with me as we figure out the next steps in our journey.  Here's my background. I had my daughter in 2011- I got pregnant on our first month TTC and had a relatively easy pregnancy. Last year, I got pregnant for the second time (on our second try) and the baby was found to have no heartbeat at our 20 week anatomy scan. I was induced and we found that there were cord strictures that significantly reduced blood flow, so it was ruled a cord accident (they tried to do chromosomal testing on the baby but were unable to get any results). I got pregnant for the third time (on our second try) and we learned the baby had no heartbeat at 15 weeks.  I just delivered her last night and we've requested an autopsy and chromosomal testing.

In both the 2nd and 3rd pregnancies, we had the Panorama test done and the results showed very low chances of the chromosomal abnormalities that it covers. I also had standard bloodwork done to rule out clotting issues, etc and all was clear.  With that being the case and now having two 2nd tri losses, our OB is suggesting that my husband and I do chromosomal testing.  We will be doing that as well as lots of bloodwork on me.

So I guess at this point, I'm in the unexplained infertility boat but I have a feeling that once the testing is complete, we may learn that there is some sort of chromosomal translocation issue.  Only time will tell, I guess.  I look forward to spending time with you ladies through this journey.

  • Hello, my heart just breaks for you and am truly sorry about your losses. I would also recommend introing to the Trying to Conceive After a Loss Board as I know the additional support of women who have truly been there. I hope your stay here is short and you get the answers to these losses ((hugs))

Have you considered trying baby aspirin? You can take it throughout a pregnancy and it could potentially help with blood flow to the fetus.

I am so deeply sorry for your losses. I don't think this board will be a good fit for you, unless something crazy comes up in that b/w because you seem to be able to get pregnant easily, which is great, hopefully the Drs can find something to help you stay pregnant. This board is full of lots of Clomid, IUIs, IVFs, etc, nothing you should have to worry yourself with.

I will keep you in my prayers, and I hope you get some answers soon! (HUGS)

  • I'm so sorry for your losses. I lost my son at 20w, and we are looking at IVF with PGD. I would definitely get testing. After I had testing I'm now on folate (instead of folic acid) supplements to help with egg quality, and baby aspirin. Wishing you the best of luck!

@Momarazzi007 - just from what I'm researching, it's seeming like IVF with PGD may end up being our best option, but we'll see what all of the tests ultimately show (or I know they could show nothing). It's not something we've even considered before since we had the first successful pregnancy and the first loss was seen as a fluke at the time, so this 2nd loss changes things a lot.

@Mrs Castillo - my OB had me on baby aspirin for the last pregnancy even though I wasn't determined to have any clotting problems- seemed like a won't hurt/might help type thing, but we still had the loss.  The reading I'm doing makes it seem like, if it's determined from our current testing that it is a chromosomal issue, IVF might be our best way to go for a successful pregnancy. I don't know enough about it yet though since we're just starting this aspect of our journey.
