February 2014 Moms

This time last year...

We were all getting BFPs, or had already gotten them!! It's so crazy to me how quickly time has flown by.

So for funsies, tell us about when/where/how you got your BFP. Was it planned, were you excited? Terrified? All of the above?

Bonus points for pics of your BFP announcement. :-D

  • I wasn't even pregnant yet!!! I actually conceived on June 14 which was the day I graduated college!!! One of the best days of my life
  • Mine will be a year ago tomorrow. Even though it was 100% planned (I even had to get a Mirena out), I was a little terrified when that second line popped up. And also surprised that it happened so fast. We tried for almost a year and had a miscarriage before DS1 so I wasn't expecting to get KU for a while, let alone my second cycle off BC. Once it sank in though, I was ecstatic. DH started out a little guarded, but didn't take long to get around to being really excited.

  • I didn't get my BFP until the 22nd. And we were terrified because I had just had a m/c. We had tried for 3 1/2 years, including failed IVFs and losses, before we quit trying and just had unprotected sex. We found out the day DH was offered the job in Utah. It was a pretty crazy, stressful time all things considered. I panicked because it was a Saturday and I needed Lovenox and couldn't get it from my RE until Monday. We didn't announce until like 17 weeks, and our announcement was adorable, but I don't feel comfortable posting it here because it contains a lot of identifiers.

  • We got our June 28th. I had no idea I was pregnant, and we thought I was sick, my doc put an hcg test on to my huge stack of other blood tests at the last minute! I'd actually already left my appointment, but went in with my bf for his, and my doctor asked for my paper work and added it. Thank God, or I could have been one of those people on I Didn't Know I was pregnant.

We weren't trying a all, but it was the happiest (scary) day of my life. It was 2 days before my boyfriends 40th birthday, so I gave him a tiny pair of shoes as an early bday gift. He looked at them for a while, said, Does this mean what I think it does? I said yes, pored him a big glass of wine, and then he sat down in a state of shock for an hour. We swore we wouldn't tell anyone until we figured out how far along I was. But he told EVERYONE. And went out and bought himself a Harley. "The last time I'll ever be able to splurge on myself"

Ours was in between planned and surprise.  I had just got the IUD out and we were kind of counting on it taking a few months to get pregnant.  Nope, got pregnant the first month!

I got some "Big Brother" shirts for the boys and showed DH.  His words were, "Oh shit."  :P

  • My period was a few days late. We weren't necessarily TTC but weren't preventing it either. I POS just to make sure. And yep, it was positive! I called my SO and told him I had to leave work early and we needed to talk. He thought I cheated on him or something! Haha. I ended up sending the pic below right after we hung up and I left work.

  • DD was planned. We had to start trying not knowing when I would ovulate because my cycle was messed up from BFing but it took right away. We went out to breakfast and afterward I felt like the sausage taste wouldn't leave my mouth and it was grossing me out. Then we went out to Indian food for Father's Day and I had the same weird reaction again. Nothing like that happened with DS but I knew I was pregnant, DH thought so too. I took a test the next morning and it was positive. I bought DS a shirt that read "I'm the big brother", put it on him, and waited for DH to notice it when he got home from work. DS ran to see him when he got home and he called out to me from the entryway "Uh honey, are you pregnant?". Not exactly the reaction I was expecting but funny. We used the shirt to tell everyone else as well cuz I'm super creative like that. ;)

  • It was not easy for us to get pregnant. I was diagnosed with PCOS January 2014 and shortly after my husband had problems diagnosed on a semen analysis. We were bummed and kind of gave up. We had an appt scheduled with a urologist but weren't feeling too optimistic. Right around my birthday (June 23) I started having some spotting. I thought it was leading up to my period so wrote it off. When my period never came, I decided to do a pregnancy test but was certain it would be negative. I peed on it and then walked away for a long time. I was in total shock when I came back and saw the bold positive line. DH was super excited to cancel the urology appt. Baby J is the best birthday gift I have ever received!
  • I had gone off the pill over a year earlier and my period never returned. I was not planning to try yet but I wanted to get my body squared away so I went to the doctor. She told me I probably would not get pregnant without help, referred me to an RE. We still continued to use protection except one time. A year ago today I did a sprint triathlon and felt so sick during it. I didn't think much of it that day because my stomach sucks anyway but when it continued for another week, I finally tested and it was positive :) it was surprising but also happy! Especially now this year when I've got a cutie cuddling with me.

  • I was shocked, because I had just had what I thought was a period the week before. We were planning to start trying again in the next few months (DD was only 9 months old, but it took us so long to get and stay pregnant with her, we figured we'd start trying early), so I was using OPKs, and I got a positive OPK way earlier in my cycle than normal. I knew from past experience that positive OPK could equal pregnancy, so I took a pregnancy test (at work, because for some reason I had one there from prior TTC), and it was positive. I emailed DH to tell him because we were both at work but neither of us thought it would last because of the bleeding I had. But here we are :)
BFP #1 9/2010 (lost our baby at 21 weeks) BFP #2 8/2011 (ectopic pregnancy) BFP #3 10/2011 (chemical pregnancy) BFP #4 12/2011 (Abigail born 8/15/12) BFP #5 5/2013 (Griffin born 1/23/14 with heart defects, now repaired!)

  • We were not trying but not being careful enough. I had suspected poor timing but we had other false alarms so I wasn't too concerned. First test was a VERY faint BFP. DH didn't believe it until the digital. We both stayed in denial until my first appt and u/s. HG kicked in 2 days later and there was no denying it or even hiding it.

  • I didn't get my BFP until the end of the month, but know the exact day we conceived because we had an "oops" and the anniversary of that day was just a few days ago...so while I knew it was a possibility that I was pregnant I didn't think I was (maybe denial) and we had a yard sale where I sold all the twins baby gear and clothes (also gave some to a friend who had triplets including two boys!)...while at the yard sale everyone kept commenting how maybe I shouldn't get rid of stuff but we weren't planning on getting pregnant so soon. well, fast forward about two weeks and I was late so I POAS and sure enough, immediate 2nd line! I have to admit I was very anxious (because 2 yr old twins) but my husband was surprisingly ecstatic which helped calm me down haha...we told our parents by having the boys call and say "we're big brothers!" and a year later I wouldn't change anything, he absolutely completes our family :x
  • Happy anniversary @codypup and @chiawombat!!!
  • We found out when we were in Jamaica on our 3rd anniversary. I took a blood test at my OB the day before we left. I had such horrible morning sickness....I still can't smell pineapple without gagging! Even though I was barfing off the side of my paddle board when the nurse called with my BFP, it was the best day ever! We had struggled with infertility issues since we got married and had just about given up hope.
  • @utpony - I literally just started crying. That was so amazingly sweet!!

And I <3 mini coopers. My mom drives a red one!

I found on June 18, which is our anniversary. We werent exactly trying, but. Of preventing either just letting it happen if and when it did. We announced to family by giving them pictures of buns in ovens. Everyone got it right away, except my mom who said "I don't get it why's there a donut in the oven" then my sister started to laugh and it all became clear.

    I can AW again. :D

There was nothing about any of our pregnancies that wasn't planned, but I think we were still pretty surprised by this one. It was IVF#5/transfer#10, and we'd officially given up before our RE talked us in to one final cycle. I actually had to start my meds while we were in Turkey on vacation and went right into treatment the first morning we were back. That Turkey trip was our, 'okay, fuck it, we are DONE with this shit' trip. Hahahaha.

Anyway, that was the roughest of all of my TWWs. I'd never been so sick. I was going to wait until my beta (17dpo) but I gave in at 12dpo because I just felt so shitty. I tested while H was at work, and even after all of our losses when I looked at that second line I just *knew* that this was going to be the one. I don't know why, but even though I was terrified I knew this one was different. I happy danced and cried all over my house and quickly got in touch with my nurses first (because I love them) and then my clinic to see about moving up my betas.

I had to pick up H from the train at the end of the day and I put DD in her big sister shirt that we'd bought for our big announcement the year before, and I didn't say a thing the whole way home. I just waited for him to notice when he got her out of the car. Then we both happy danced and cried some more.

Here she is in the shirt again for our official announcement on FB. We'd been really open about our loss history and it seemed right that she was finally getting to wear that shirt and actually finally get to be a big sister.

  • Aww both @utpony and @car seat's posts made me cry.  How sweet to both!
  • We were actually hoping to get pregnant the next month but we were off BC. I have a rule that I never test until my period is "due". So when I had to pee at 2am the day I was due I called it official enough and POAS... Except I did it wrong and I didn't have any other tests! I had to wait until the grocery opened up at 6 and got pancake stuff and another test. I made everyone pancakes and finally had to pee again about 10, when I got my BFP!! I just came down and handed DH the stick. He was like "really??" I think he's STILL in a state of shock!!

  • @utpony‌ I love that!! I can't stop crying!

I found out June 13, right before Father's Day. I had been going to an RE because PCOS and the nurse called at the very end of my school day. I took the call because the kids weren't there and I thought they were going to tell me to come in so they could force start my cycle and do a round of Clomid. then the nurse said, "umm, honey? you're pregnant!!" and I almost fell over. I could believe it and completely blacked out on everything else she said. I had to call back to find out what to do since my progesterone numbers were so low and she was laughing because I couldn't stop saying, "how did this happen?? I mean, I know how! but are you sure?"

I POAS when I got home because I wanted to FINALLY see those double lines and they popped up right away. I wrapped up the test and had to wait 3 grueling hours for DH to get home. I hope I never forget the sound of the nurse's voice when she told me.

we told our immediate families on Father's Day but my mom and sister were at my sisters house out of state. since my nieces baptism was coming up, I called them and said that I found the perfect baptismal gift for my niece... a cousin!! my sister screamed "you idiot, I knew it!!!" hahaha.

  • What a fun post! I can't believe it's been a year!

Well mine will be a year on the 13th. This baby was not planned completely... I had just gone off a BC because we were going to start trying in August. I like to joke that LO is our bud light lime baby! I wasn't even ovulating according to the app I used and we used the pull and pray method lol but clearly god wanted to bless us with our little girl to complete our family!

I was a day late and called a friend to bring me a test cause I was at work as a nanny. She brought me 5 from the dollar store. I was having the same symptom I had with DS, I could not stop peeing!!!!! So I took one while she was there waiting the 5 min and nothing! I was so relieved! Then she left and I went to throw it out and there was the second line! I freaked out and took all of the test! It was indeed positive. I will admit that I was really upset at first. I had just lost 10 lbs and really wanted to lose another 10 at least before we tried in August because I still had baby weight from DS. I called my close friends and told them. When I got out of work I stopped to get another test that says pregnant, went to where DH was working which was our best friends house and the taped or as DS handed him the test. He almost passed out! It was a total shock to us all but as I look back at if now we are so lucky. LO is amazing and completed our family perfectly!

This little guy was planned. We had talked about stopping avoiding when DS1 turned one, but not temping or anything out of the ordinary until he hit 18m. DS's first birthday was the end of June.

Well ... The night before my first Mother's Day, all signs were pointing to O. I asked DH if he wanted to go for it & we did. I was still BFing, and I'm pretty sure it was my first O.

So, on May 21st, I started spotting (10dpo), and I thought that not only was I not pg, but AF was early. However, it stopped.

I had a bunch of internet cheapies from TTC DS1, so I took a test the next morning on May 22nd: the lightest, lightest line popped up. I told DH with just a, "hey - look!"

This was our FB announcement at about 15/16w:

  • It's funny because it's about a week shy of me finding out I was pregnant. I had actually gone to Vegas exactly a year ago for my husband's birthday with his brother, SIL and sister and we had a great time. Came home and I hadn't gotten my period. Took a test and it seemed to just have the one line and said negative. A few more days went by and so I pulled out the test (it was still in the trash can) and I saw the faintest second line. I of course googled "faint second line" and it pretty much said if you see two lines then you're pregnant. At 11pm I hauled it to the grocery store and bought a test. This one immediately showed two lines. I about fell over. We were talking about starting to try at the end of summer but this was way sooner than we had even thought about.

I waited for my husband to get home (he works at a restaurant) and had the test out and waiting. He immediately teared up and was so excited.

Here we are now with a 15 week old beautiful baby girl and wouldn't change anything.
