However, we're going to give a photo as a party favour. Its all immediate family who would want one anyway.
I think Thank you cards are appropriate for a wedding, baby shower, or bridal shower. To me that's more of a "formal" event.
I personally think they are not needed for birthdays. It's just not something that I've ever seen, or what my family does. We are doing a bbq, at family's house, nothing formal about it. I'll say thanks for coming, and thanks for the gifts as they are walking out the door.
