Twinges in Cervix

Is this normal? I'm 16 weeks and "twinge" is the best way I know how to describe what I have been feeling. I'm not sure it it's cause for concern. They aren't really painful and happen maybe a handful of times a day. It's really just a twinge up in what I assume to be my cervix area. I plan to speak to my Dr. about this at my next appointment but that isn't scheduled for a few weeks. I may try to get in sooner because I am a worry wart.

Re: Twinges in Cervix

  • Twinge is a word i have never heard to describe anything. Is it like a twitch? Or a cringe? Or a cramp? A flutter? If there is pain, I would worry. Since there seems to not be, I would think you are okay.. Maybe give Dr or nurse a call before the appointment to make sure? Good luck!

  • OP more than likely you're feeling muscles pulling and stretching.  That's normal.
  • I was just going to post a question very similar! I am 20 week's and have felt the same twinges but I have them all over the lower region. I feel them a lot in my rectum. When I was 17 weeks I had my OB take a look and he said it was how the baby was laying and that she is probably jabbing or kicking down causing the pain. It almost feels like a quick muscle cramp? Nothing that takes my breath away but I surely notice it.
Mine went away after a few days but it came back 2 days ago. I am just a little concerned because I feel it very frequently this time and it is much stronger. Maybe because she is bigger? I also think it could be the ligaments and maybe an irritated nerve? Who knows! I feel it wether sitting or walking but more so when moving around. Sound similar?
The thought of my cervix dilating early does have me concerned but I have no other symptoms to assume that is what is going on. I asked my OB about that last time and he did an exam (rectal too.. wooza!) and said everything was fine. It is so easy to worry! I swear the office rolls their eyes every time I call!
  • Maybe lightning crotch?

Most likely totally normal. I get these sometimes and have been assured by a dr and a nurse that they are most likely the/a baby hitting one of the nerves around the cervix. Anything that feels like a quick, shooting or very quick pain in that area or the vagina is probably that once you hit 2nd tri.

There is a very small chance the cervix could be being "dynamic" (ie lengthening and shortening or whatever) - but unless you have another symptom like bleeding or cramping it probably isn't it. (And this is coming from someone whose cervix was doing things, and I was still assured that the twinges I felt weren't related).
